How is this better than simply using p-tex candles and a soldering iron?

Ptex has practically zero wax retention. This gives you the ability to add a sintered material into the existing base. It looks a really good system however all this gear would not be cheap to set up so would have to be done through a shop unless you are pretty set with $$$,$$$. I'd imagine a base repair would be well over $100 with a base structure added in to match. Looks a very professional repair.

@@cratra Hi, if the base near the edge is damaged, you have no chance to fill it with PTex, because the PTex don't stick on the metal. If your ski has some small holes near the edge, may coming humidity inside and get frozen and make more damege. For privete using to buy all the set is realy too expencive. I've skiworkshop in Germany and fix it something like that for 20,- up 25,€. Don't try to use the iron on the ski base for melting the PTex, because you need realy high tempracher and that damage the base. I hop was this one helpfull.

PS. i give you some tips. If you wanna fix your ski yourself, you don't all of this equipment. Use the cutter and cut the damaged part exactly in square. After try to cut a new piece at the same size from a blank base. Clean the damaged side and use the spesial glue to stick the new piece of base. Put the woodplate on the base but use the baking paper beatween base and woodplate. After use 2 or 3 screw clamp. The glue need 24 ouers to get hard. Clean the base wit metal scarper.

For Joe average skier this is way overkill , little ptex and off you go.
