Love Mr. Bellamy's work. I have two of his books "David Bellamy's Skies, Light & Atmosphere In Watercolour and David Bellamy's Mountains & Moorlands In Watercolour. Both are fantastic books.

I'm 64 and getting started with Soft Pastel / WC pencil / Martin India inks! I am really excited to see your techniques! Have you ever used Cretacolor Aquarelle Watercolor woodless solid pigment pencils? They go on dry or wet, and wash out really smoothly!

I'm a week into starting to paint for the first time in my life and as with most things I pick up I have jumped in head first. It hasn't taken long to figure out that capturing light is the key to painting. This video is one of the better ones I have come across.

NICE picture watercolor paintings do have more of challenge then oils or acrylics. I am trying with ampersand claybords they display more opaque look to pictures.

Hi, I don't know how to solve my problem (I'm a beginner).... my watercolor papers are 200gr and when I'm using wet on wet technique, the paper is ondulating, making pools of paint that collects the water. Am I using too much water?
@MrPhilcoolio

that tends to happen when using wet on wet. Try drying your brush and soaking the access water up. As for paper, i use 300gsm paper. Some people pre soak the paper and then tape/pin it down (cheap option) or you can buy frames that you put it in (expensive). I am a beginner too and I have just bought a block of watercolour paper. It is gummed down on all sides and seems to cut down on the crinkling, although I think it is impossible to eliminate it completely.

I'm pretty new to watercolor and acrylic painting. Your video is the first I've seen the same painting technique that I use. Does this technique have a name? Rest of video was wonderful as well. Beautiful atmosphere in each one.

I came to this site in the hope that I would find out how to avoid --Blue into yellow makes green, while recreating a vivid 'blazing' sunset. Unfortunately, although I've learned that you must not fuss over applying these two colours near each other, the scene shown here is rather weaker than I'd hoped, and therefore, is easier to avoid the problem. I raised this question while attending an art lesson, and the tutor couldn't explain.

I hope you won't mind if I just give a suggestion. I have learned to use a buffer color between the blue and yellow. For a sunset if you have blue at the top and yellow at the horizon they will make green when they come together. I painted a very dramatic sunset by adding a rose color between the yellow and blue. The rose color will blend into a pretty sunset orange color with the yellow and a nice violet color when it blends with the blue above. Give this a try it works out very nicely to create a "blazing sunset".

Philip Croft Hi, you can put just a touch of red into your yellow & blue- it doesn't greatly alter the two colours but prevents them going green as the red would tend to make a pale grey which doesn't really show under the stronger blue & yellow
