@@shanewilson9924 It's not as crazy as it seems. They start small and work their way up to the 70 and 90 meter jumps. The landing hill is angled so you are never more than 30 feet off the ground, which is plenty, but you follow the hill pretty close as you descend, once the physics and angles come int oplay it's actually a lot less dangerous than it seems. The speed is the real problem, you screw up on the down track, and you can get really fucked up, but a fall once you jump doesn't usually end up in serious injury. Men's downhill , which is faster, has equal descents with odd angles, ice, and 130kmh speeds, wearing a skin suite and zero give is far more dangerous. And the stats show it. These jumpers jump from the time they are little kids, and do baby hops , work their skill and confidence up. In fact, the real danger is anorexia it's the scourge of the sport as jumpers try to gain strong legs, and light upper bodies, totally un natural, but every ounce counts when your trying to fly..

it is both scary and dangerous, but it isnt as dangerous as it looks. Even if you would land all wrong, the slope is made in such a way that the impact is "manageable". It will probably hurt like hell, and you can definitely brake bones, but most likely you will survive ^^

I wonder what speeds they reach on these all year round dry slopes? They must have to keep those running rails free of obstacles for a smooth unimpeded exit. 😎

In 1979 I was in Grimstad Norway visiting my brother. While walking by the jump at the high school I spotted the younger brother of a girl I liked coming down the hill and making a perfect landing. Being a smart ass I said that was good now do it with one ski;...so without hesitation he handed me one of his skis and did just that. Another beauty landing as well. Ah to be young and fearless.

The biggest risk with this speed/run is your skis turning (even slightly, one slower than the other) But with the ski tracks it's almost impossible.

Or the clips on his boots failing which is why this person quadruple checked them. I would never have the guts to do this even I knew the technique perfectly. Just takes the slightest distraction or mistake and your in a wheel chair for life.
