Hey Ted, found and have been watching your videos for the past couple of weeks preparing for first trip back to Breck (from PA) in 10 yrs. Only been there twice and probably only ever skied 10% of trails, mostly blues. Thanks for posting such informative videos. That and your amazing talent has kept me watching for hours at a time. Can't believe the way you float over and through crazy terrain! I I now have plenty of notes as to what blacks I should be able to ski, and which to avoid. Also gave me the idea to get an action cam to capture my trip to share with friends and family who can't make the trip. Awesome stuff, keep it up. -Any videos out there somewhere of you skiing??? (taken by someone else) Would really like to see you skiing and hopefully pick up some tips just from watching. Thanks!

Cool video. I like both formats - the single run videos, and this format is cool when appropriate (conditions change, new terrain opening, etc.) One thing to notice is the vastly different color saturation between the Hero7 & Hero4 as evidenced by the Breck Stables barn @ 31:20
@BreckSnowPro
5 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, good to hear from you! Several factors probably come into play for the difference in saturation between the cameras. One is obviously...that they are different. The 7 should have better color science behind it. Also, I have not color corrected anything since March and am a little rusty on how to do it. And finally, the camera on my chest is color corrected to pick up details in the snow. The one on my pole is corrected to pick up everything else.

@PH14 - Do you mean the audio/video equipment or ski gear? For the Audio/Video stuff, others have asked this as well and I intend to shoot a video covering this at some point. I may post it on another channel though. I'm not sure how subscribers here might respond to a non-ski-run related video. I lost subscribers when I tried posting mountain bike ride through fall foliage videos. As for my ski gear, I think what works for me may not be the best choice for others. And just FYI, this video is shot with a GoPro Hero7 Black on my chest and Hero4 Black on my pole. Audio is through a Zoom H2n in my pocket and an external mic, I'm not sure which.

Love Breck and love your video's... by far the best ones to watch if you're preparing to ski breck and are not very familiar with the terrain. would like to see the best way to get from peak 9 to peak 7. have a group of intermediate skiers and last time we tried columbine but some of the flats were difficult for folks in the group. what is pathfinder like??
@TheLewistownTrainspotter8102
5 жыл бұрын
Oh, you made the mistake of taking the Columbine catwalk all the way from the Vista Haus. No-no-no-no. When coming from the Peak 8 SuperConnect, the recommended route (the route I've used) is to not take Columbine. Instead, what I do is I ski down to Peak 8 Base, typically on Spruce but sometimes on Springmeier (Springmeier is the intermediate route down). Then I take the Rocky Mountain SuperChair from Peak 8 Base. Then, from the Rocky Mountain SuperChair, take Columbine past the T-Bar to either Claimjumper or Pioneer. This route also works if headed to Peak 6. (If you're going to Peak 6, you go to Pioneer, ski down a bit and take the Peak 6 Parkway to your left, which will cross over to Wirepatch. You then go down a hill on Wirepatch, and then take a cutoff to your left which will take you straight over to the Zendo Chair).

The camera on my chest in this video is the GoPro Hero7 Black. The one on my pole is a Hero4 Black. I don't think GoPros have the kind of focus that shifts in and out. I'm wondering if you might be noticing something else going on, like an artifact of the "HyperSmooth Video Stabilization" which is the in-camera electronic image stabilization that is a new feature in the Hero7 Black. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this matter? If so, please let me know. And thanks!

@@BreckSnowPro I also had a question! I'd say I'm an intermediate skier and ski very confidently on peak 7 blues and others I have yet tackled any diamond runs....I know it's probably mostly mental on my part LOL! What single blacks would you recommend for a first timer without moguls?
@BreckSnowPro
5 жыл бұрын
@James L. Thanks! And I don't think you are wrong about the "focus" issue. I thought I noticed something weird going on at my end too. My best guess is that it is a glitch with the EIS (electronic image stabilization) of the Hero7 Black. Spruce, when it is groomed, which is most of the time, is one of the easier single blacks. Others are American and Doublejack.
@ctone12
5 жыл бұрын
@@BreckSnowPro you can try using a higher bitrate when processing the video, also use low sharpness, a low ISO value (over 800 is just terrible, lock it in lower, brighter the day the lower the value), match shutter speed with the FPS you're shooting at. Could definitely be the EIS that causes the artifacts also.

@BreckSnowPro
4 жыл бұрын
@Doug - I was probably talking about going from the top of A-Chair to the mid-load of the Snowflake chair-lift and this video is in the play-lists. But having said that, I don't actually do this often. Most of the time, I catch a bus from the bottom of the Beaver Run chair to the bottom of the gondola or the Snow-flake chair instead. Using a bus is faster and easier on most beginners than the traverse involved with the A-Chair to Snowflake route.

Hey Ted. I booked my first ever ski trip to breckenridge for the first of february. I have rossignol experience 75s and I am an intermediate skier. Will I be able to go through any bowls with my skis or do I need big powder skis? And do you have a recommended rental place?
@BreckSnowPro
5 жыл бұрын
@Tyler Blair 75s are probably a bit narrow *IF* we get some powder days while you are here. If not, I'd say stick with what you are accustomed to if you like them. My primary all mountain ski is the E88. But I know plenty of instructors which prefer narrower skis and others that prefer them wider. There really is no "right" answer here. There is a "Breckenridge Sports" at the bottom of all the major base areas which is convenient. And there are about a dozen other shops around town if you want to find a specific ski to try and Breckenridge Sports does not have it.

also what trails/locations on the mountain are the best for wide open glade skiing, where the snow isnt too pushed off the mountain
@BreckSnowPro
5 жыл бұрын
@Jtwaves My favorite "wide open glade skiing" is probably Ore Bucket. The Burn is less open, more challenging, and one needs to keep in mind that they are merging with an intermediate trail that kids love the right side of when getting to the bottom of it. As for trying 4K/60, I hope others will weigh in on the topic. It would save me the time of trying to figure it out myself. But, my thought right now is to go the other way and try shooting in 1080p/60 instead of 2.7K/60 which maxed out the Hero7's specs for Protune on, linear field of view, and "HyperSmooth" EIS. Another viewer thought the footage looked like that camera was moving in and out of focus. And I see what he means. But I don't think the focus on GoPros actually moves in and out. I think that the out of focus look was probably the "HyperSmooth" failing to keep up. And I hope that perhaps shooting at 1080p/60fps might help solve this problem. I also have another chest mount on order.
