A dream come true. To get an opportunity and good conditions to climb and ski Aoraki is a rarity and we could not be more grateful for this morning. It was early November 2021 after a westerly storm blew some snow onto the east face of Aoraki. We started at 1am from Plateau Hut and topped out at 7:30am. We didn't climb the last few meters to the top of Aoraki to respect its significance. Thank you Papatūānuku!
Special mention to Charlie who just hours prior, was released from his quarantine hotel after a summer racing bikes in Europe. These were his first turns in over a year, above 1000 meters of exposure, and on my back up pair of skis.
