Nice one, I've just followed your previous vids and put holes in and used foam to stop some cracks where it was skimmed and also a large long radiator is close by. The wall was already painted by the decorators I had in but I was never happy with the covering so i've mixed some of the existing paint colour in to the filler and now filled it and sanded down. Tomorrow I start the job of painting with the same colour as the original. Hopefully the cracks won't come back.

Thanks for the video. Recently I filled in some hairline cracks in my ceiling with plaster filler. As I was applying a mist coat on my stripped-to-bare-plaster walls, I thought I may as well skim coat the ceiling, which was already painted from before. The ceiling mist coat was fine, but when I applied a top coat to it, many patches of paint began to peel off. Any idea why this happened, and what should I do to stop peeling?
@PaintingandDecorating

You need to strip as much off as you can ..sounds like your mist coat has failed... seal the bare plaster with diluted PVA

@@PaintingandDecorating Sorry if i wasn't clear, but it was the ceiling i was talking about. It was already painted before, but then i filled in some cracks, so i mist coated all of it. Then i put a coat of paint on it, but a lot of patches peeled off

Thanks so much for this! I have this exact issue at my place. Sounds like the plaster has blown below. Great that you didn’t need scrim tape actually... I was planning on opening the cracks right up with a Stanley and using tape but this looks far less hassle! I presume you have a quick sand before you final step of painting? Did you put a drop of paint in the filler? Thanks again, Jack

Brilliant I will certainly keep this in mind and will try it next opportunity. Have you any vids or ideas on how to cover damp patches. I've tried 3 in 1 foil backed paper and then covered it with lining paper a day later. Only to find it peeled off over night. Love to here any possible remedy.

Very difficult to stop damp it has to come out somehow.. best trying to solve the problem... vent the room more heat make sure its not condensation. Fix the problem if it is damp.

@@PaintingandDecorating yeah the problem is the gable end has been knocked down and dropped in the cellar. Looks like I need to dig it out and replace the concrete floor with a wooden one and put some air bricks in. I was hopeful you had a magic wand. Haha. Never mind time for the big dig. Wish me luck.

Continental filling knives from Screwfix. Dead cheap too! Couldn’t do without them. Keep them dry though because they rust easily. Rather wipe clean if using filler and sand when dry, than use water 👍🏼

After sanding the filler, what is the best way to remove the dust before painting? Clean water and sponge or sugar soap etc.?
@PaintingandDecorating
3 жыл бұрын
You can wipe with sponge.. sugar soap is more to clean paint work before sanding. We usually dust then seal filler using diluted PVA thanks

Your welcome thanks.... and yes I've had problems with Valspar and other makes all to do with the fact they are scrubabble... they dry and pull on the surface causing cracking when going over some paints.

Use diluted PVA also you can mist coat it. Usually 2 to 3 hrs between mist coats. Thanks.
