hey mate, has anyone told you today you're a fucking legend! discovered your channel recently and it quickly has become my favorite. the lessons are really really good but the songs you select are a vibe. thank you because it's like you've got a psychic connection to my spotify 2020 wrap-up. Anyway dude means a lot to learn to play songs I listen to, so thanks. I'd like to donate $20 at some point but since your obviously a big fan of aussie/nz music, heres some bangers i think that are in your taste that go off here in aus In The Air - L.A.B Inappriopriate Behavior - Lime Cordiale Lightenup - Parcels Goodie Bag - Still Woozy Shalala - Moses Gunn Collective Up In The Clouds - Skeggs Slipping Away - LEISURE I Follow You - Melody's Echo Chamber Cyclone (The VIllage Sessions) - Sticky Fingers Oracolo - Skinshape Don't You Forget About Me - Port Royal

I have been called a legend in the comments before which I am not but this *is* the first time today since I just woke up ha but in all seriousness what a comment to wake up to! This is a nonprofit so while I really appreciate the offer I really don't want to take anyone else's money. Comments like this are more than enough, especially when you rattle off some bangers as recommendations! Do you know what? I was out for a run like a week or two ago and I put on the Surf Rock Sunshine playlist from Spotify. I usually just let the songs play. Very rarely do I stop and save anything but on that run I ended up stopping to save two tracks- one was Shalala and the other was Raspberry Jam. You should check that one out as well! I've given Lime Cordiale and Skeggs a listen here and there and while I like their music I find that I don't play them as often as some of the others on this channel. Still Woozy is awesome and Goodie Bag is probably my favorite song by him. Parcels is really cool. KZitem recommended Tieduprightnow to me a few months ago and I really like their groovy sound. STIFI is definitely one of my favorites and Cyclone is one of the first songs I'll play in a music store when picking up an acoustic guitar. Actually my friend Angelo made an incredible cover of that song that should have way more views. You should check it out (kzitem.info/news/bejne/2qmCwGR6r4iBd4o)! He also has some other covers on there I'm sure you will like. He sounds just like Dylan Frost imo. Only problem with STIFI and this channel is most of their songs already have amazing tutorial videos to go along with them so luckily for us there's not much STIFI that hasn't been covered in great detail already. The rest of those songs I don't immediately recognize by name but I will be sure to check them out today and let you know what I think! Again thank you so much for your comment Lachlan!! Really made my day!!! 🙏 🙌 ❤️

@@lachlanmcgoldrick4877 no worries! Actually now that you've replied to this I would like to retract what I said in my original comment about Skegss (where I also screwed up the spelling). I've since given them another listen and I definitely like their sound. I used to think they were the same as Dune Rats but now I realize they are much more melodic than that. Valhalla is 🔥

@@LibertyLoftLessons noice, how good?! Was meaning to ask are there any US bands that have the Oceania surf rock flavour? I discovered Marlins Dreaming through this channel and have been equally stoked playing and listening to them. Solid videos and find on that one, I don’t know how they slipped through trip Js or my Spotify’s hands - yet still everyone I’ve played them to has agreed they’re good

@@lachlanmcgoldrick4877 There are some really great indie bands and reggae bands here in the US but I have yet to find any really good surf rock bands myself or get any requests for any I haven't heard of yet. I grew up on US reggae bands like Slightly Stoopid, Rebelution, Iration, The Expendables, Tribal Seeds, Sublime, Pepper, etc. Almost all of them come out of California. I used to watch TED Talk videos, too. One day, KZitem suggested a video called "Finding A Place Through Music" presented by Tash Sultana. I was totally inspired by the lecture, and then Tash played Notion at the end and I was totally blown away. I started listening to Tash heavy. After that, KZitem and Spotify started recommending all this amazing surf music which I had never heard of before that was sort of like a cross between the reggae and indie bands over here. I didn't go out searching for them. After a while, I started to notice the one thing they all had in common was they were all from Australia and New Zealand. Again... mind blown! Marlin's Dreaming has been my favorite discovery since starting this channel as well so I am really glad you agree! Lachlan Uccello first requested them way back on the Ride - Mako Road video. They used to go by the name Gromz so you should check out Gromz stuff as well while you're at it! I haven't completely abandoned the US bands yet though. I've gotten a couple of really great requests for a couple of my favorite indie songs that are both by bands from the the US so stay tuned for that! I have been putting those off for months but hope to get around to them soon after I drop a few more NZ bangers. The past few lessons are the songs and bands I've been listening to on repeat lately. I just can free myself from them enough at the present moment to shift my focus back here to the US bands for a few lessons but I will come around eventually.

could anyone tell me the strumming patterns

These are always really hard to teach! I think strumming is very much based on feel so I would recommend trying a few different strumming patterns until you find one that feels and sounds right!! Hope this helps!!! 🙏 🙌

Yes of course! I love when you guys ask. This is my first ever electric, a 2014 Gibson Les Paul Junior in Chocolate Satin. It's Gibson's 120th Anniversary edition so it as a 120th Anniversary inlay on the 12th fret. I don't think they make them anymore but you may be able to pick one up used: aws2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/2014/LPJ.aspx

Wow Joe this is brilliant! I can't believe how good they are live and I am so glad that they do so many live recordings like this! Thank you so much for sharing!! Will definitely be covering this song in the near future!!! Ashton is definitely using a heavy delay. It makes it sound like you're shredding when you're actually not. He's also using a slide at the end, which I have never tried before! Caleb is playing basic open chords (C, D, G?) which is what he always does but with the capo on the 4th fret. He is the best at spicing up those open chords! Pep is there looking beautiful as usual. I will take a closer look at some point but I hope this helps in the meantime!

I would love to do more Spacey Jane! I think that this is one of their Hottest 100 songs as well! I think I could make a video for it if I can find out what effects they're using. It's definitely a delay of some sort and there is a synth that is very prominent in the track. I think that is probably the reason there are no lessons or live performances of this song yet, at least that I can find. Again, if I can figure out the tone, would a lesson going over the chords be helpful? I do love this song though and this is random but it would be perfect on a FIFA playlist imo ha
