That's badass man. I grew up out in the East Bay, so Rancid has been my favorite band since about 1997. I grew up on punk rock and new ska, and always listened to Sublime and stuff but it wasn't until the last few years that I got into the roots reggae and oh man, I always thought skinhead was just hard Oi! music but understood Spirit of '69 with skins and reggae but I live for this.

There has never been a sharper look than 'Tonic' strides, white 'Ben Sherman, black 'Loafers' and a real 'Crombie' for best and 'Levi's,D.M.'s,Black/White Check Ben Sherman and a Harrington for 'out and about' what times,we were proud to be who we were,WORKING CLASS.We had a full, vibrant culture of our own, with its own, rules, legends, music and structure. We may have had less money, fewer'toys' but we were better people. We knew our neighbours, the people in the pub we drank with, and who we were. With my gear on,a splash of Brut, and few Quid in my 'sky' from that weeks 'pay packet' I was richer than any King, and as happy as any lad on earth!

Appreciate the original skinhead generation. I got into punk mid 80s. Didn't go skin til late 80s. But the 80s was still a great time for the youth. 2tone ska, ska revival. Proper Oi bands, non extreme political ones. Were plenty of good skins around in the 80s. I met a bunch. 80s literally best years of my life.

You forgot the Doctor Marten boots! The 'fashion' was resurrected and reinvented in the late seventies/early eighties, along with the Mod fashion and the punks. Our little crowd had all three 'types'. I had a boyfriend who had some DMs which reached nearly up to his knees! Tatoos were also a big favourite of the 'skins'. All this was the time of the new anglocised Ska music from The Specials, Madness etc. Our crowd wasn't violent, just thought we were 'trendy' and wanting to belong to a group.

what was skin heads back then? I got into the NSM when i was in high school, now i know they use the music for manipulation but who is in charge. Well no body is racist. We add on don't have it on our original born models of self. Racism is a control tactic no different than the catholic church. I always heard of non racist skin heads and we fought a bunch but damn is this were they came from? whats it stand for. I am drunk so pardon my extreme questioning. I think I did pretty good drunk as I am lol.

Skinheads started in East London in the late 60s, they were violent football fans that hated the hippies and the growing number of Pakistani immigrants into England. They were mostly dock workers that wore steel toecapped boots, Fred Perry polo shirts, straight legged jeans and braces. This style spread across working class England, skinheads hated Pakistanis, however some skinheads were West Indians, and the music of choice of Skinheads was and is Jamaican Reggae.

I was a skinhead before Doc Martins. When we wore steel toe cap boots w studded soles. Of course I was also in a housing estate northern Ireland. A Catholic, Nationalist one. In my own experience the skins at that time had no racism involved. It was about being working class. As an aside- I have not heard the term suede head in almost 40 years.
