Good to see a dying skill being taught step by step. I was shown how to prepare a rabbit over 45 years ago, unfortunately the next generation doesn't seem very interested. I hope this video goes some way to changing that. Keep up the good work.

Very important stuff. Luckily we live in a day and age were people like him can make videos like this to educate any and all who can search this at a moment's notice. Not even a joke, but in today's world we're more likely to have a phone with a connection in an emergency situatiin than we are to have the knife we would need to skin and clean this animal! lol

I use a single edge razor to do my skinning. They are super sharp and when they dull I use them in my shop. Buy them by the 100 and they are real cheap!

It great to see how people process their game everyone does it a little differently, cant wait for different recipes too. Hope you don't get demonitized for this, are food does not come from cellophane wrappers.

So far the video has age restrictions on it but it hasn't been demonitized yet. We'll see how it goes. It's a shame skills like these are censored so heavily.

The instructions seem really clear. It's a shame squirrels don't have more meat on them. I doesn't look like you get much from them.

They call them Pinty squirrels here they are much smaller than the Red and Gray squirrels that were hunted almost to extinction in my state but are slowly making a comeback.
@KuskWild

Ya not a lot of meat on them but tasty nonetheless. A meal consisting of two squirrels and some potatoes or rice certainly hits the spot after a day out trapping. Thanks for watching!

Do you ever eat the offal (liver, heart, lungs, kidney) of squirrels, or are they just used as trap bait? I imagine you'd need quite a few to make a meal.
@KuskWild
Жыл бұрын
They certainly can be eaten. They're quite small so I usually just use them as bait or put it out for other animals to eat. In a stew pot they'd be good to toss in.

Thank you bro for making this video. Really enjoyed it. I apologize for not commenting a month ago when you uploaded. Hope you can do more videos such as how to tan the hide and preserve the furs for larger animals too, maybe deer even, if you do those kinds of things. Thanks again.

I have been wanting to learn how to do this.. and bang! Here it is! What a great walk through. I REALLY appreciated this video. Going to dig up the next step.. yum yum time 😋 So I have a question from someone who has never done this: how does this go for the “qweezy”? Does this process put off sickening odors to get used to? And if so, I imagine doing this outside with fresh air might help? Love your channels. Just beginning to dig deeper into both sites. Best and blessings bro! 😎

I appreciate you! This is great info and I can't wait to get into the wild and put this to good use! Have you ever used the Liver and head and made a broth? I've heard of using chickens that way, figuring many animals are similar

Great tutorial! Question - this method of skinning the squirrel...would you do the same exact thing for a marten?
@KuskWild

A marten is similar, yes. There's a few more steps involved in a Marten. There's a few good tutorials on KZitem if you give it a search. Thanks for watching!

Will you ever show what and how you're working with the pelt? Possibly creating something with it?
@RebeccaLoran

This might just save my life one day. I would boil the meat and the select choice gizzards in a survival situation. I would wonder how I would find a container to boil my food in if I were trapped in the woods, but I suppose I would try to find some kind of rock and chisel out a cavity somehow and just place it up against a fire to boil water in.
@Kpearso1

Kusk do you sell the pelts? Keep them and use them for….? Very interesting.
@KuskWild
Жыл бұрын
Most of the pelts are sent off to fur auctions to be sold. I usually keep a few and tan them. I'll then use them for leatherworking projects or decoration.

Very interesting but I shake my head, a decent butchers knife isn't very expensive and will stay sharp longer and be easier to use than the abomination of a knife you are using.
@KuskWild
Жыл бұрын
I assume by butcher knife you are referring to a boning knife? One could be used, yes. A short stiff blade is my preference when skinning these small animals. To each there own.. there's really no wrong way. Just use what works best for you.
