My parents were teachers, so the only times i skipped were if i were sick, if i was dragging behind and gonna make them late, or if I just couldn't do it that day (they could normally tell before i could and they understand the importance of mental reset. They could tell if i was mentally drained or if i was going through it, and dince they were teachers they knew that i wouldn't be able to learn anything like that so there'd be no point in going) Sidenote: my mom used to be like "if youre too sick for school, youre too sick for anything else" and I wasn't allowed to do anything until school hours are over, but it kinda became more lax over the years because i started understanding that being sick didn't mean it was just a free day. Once i understood that she eased up on it.

Yeah my mom was a real one growing up too, honestly both my mom and dad were, my dad picked me and my younger sister up from school nearly everyday and when my mom had a day off during the week I would always be partly bummed it wasn’t on the weekend so that we could something together all day but still happy because I knew I’d get to do something fun after school instead of just going home and doing homework, that all kinda stopped when I started Middle school(6th grade) I think and then basically entirely stopped after 7th grade because I had Brain surgery in spring of 7th grade year, so after that school became a lot more difficult and my mom was a lot harder on me about school since I struggle more with it, I’m in college now(community college so I still live with my parents, my younger sister goes to school out of state) and my mom is so hard on me about school, I truly don’t understand how to get her to understand that I really am trying my absolute best and that I’d rather her take a step back a little, problem is I failed a class last semester because the teacher gave 6 weeks(our entire winter break) of homework before the class even started(it was all mostly just how she anally wanted us to set up Canvas for her class, but you couldn’t go ahead until you finished that first, I was taking 3 other classes too so I was trying to stay on top of those classes while trying to catch up for her class, the teacher was honestly kind of an asshole too, she could’ve let me pass but didn’t😭😭😭

@@francescamalek4516 Hello, reading this I am sorry to hear that you are going through all of that. I also think after reading this that the brain surgery you mentioned at 7th grade that you had might be affecting how you process and do your schoolwork and your classes. I am sorry to hear that your mom somehow did not catch that the effect that your brain surgery must have been having on you and your classes. I think an option to try can be to let your mom know by writing a note explaining what you need, or try to set some boundaries explaining to ask to step back a bit to let you focus on your classes. Oh yea an option can be, also 4 year colleges have dorm rooms to sleep/live at, here is this as an option. You can transfer to a 4 year university (can also be same city not out of state) after you graduate from community college since it is only 2 years of 4 is an option, and disability accommodations office is there as well. I would really recommend asking for college accommodations for your classes, at the disability accommodations office of your college, so you can get the academic support you need for your classes. For when you failed that one class it would be the Professor's fault (I had a Professor when I tried to do a summer class at community college once out of confusion from advising office that was like that so I dropped the class (ask for college registrar's office)), Some Professors actually do suck, and as Professors are humans and not robots, make mistakes too. At a four year university no one does that, we literally do nothing as our finals are before winter break and everyone goes home and no one does anything until January. So yea, if that happens again, try to switch sections (Professors, do this early) or drop the class before deadline to drop class. College: You are always allowed to repeat a class again and get the grade replaced too, so if you repeat the same class you failed again when you are ready, the grade you get the second time you repeat this same class would remove the last one. This option is available at all colleges normally. But for third time taking same class first is removed and second and third stay. You can even drop a semester or a year (2 semesters) of courses and it would not show up only shows it is dropped all classes with health emergency documentation papers (does not count for drop limit if your college has one) if you have in the future a severe medical emergency too, hope that helps. Reach out to resources at your college and you can ask these questions then, such as the disability accommodations office at college. Let me know if you have any questions. I hope that helps.

I can honestly say that I never skipped school... I'm showing my age with this, but we had "off campus" lunches & allowed to leave for lunch, as well as having a few "senior skip" days. Although we were given free reign, so to speak, I still always came back. Once I started college right after high school graduation, I skipped a LOT during my first year so I could work OT at my job. I did fail a couple of classes bc of this, but once I returned to college a decade later...I never skipped classes. 🤷🏽♀️😂 So work was the only reason I ever skipped, but it was during my first year of college. I learned from my mistakes & literal failures & never skipped again. I will also say that being in the work force helped me immensely when I did finally return to school. I will also recommend, if it's still required, that if you're going to college for the first time... take a speech class BEFORE any of your English comp classes!! I would also recommend taking it as a summer class. Fewer students to speak in front of, fewer speeches to give & it helps you learn to compose papers & earn extra credit in classes that might require a public speaking assignment. Just a little wisdom from an old fart that had to learn to hard way!!😂

I have learned over the years (during college years) that it is important to take care of yourself so you would be ready for school again when you get back, and catch up shortly (shouldn't be too much no worries, if it is a lot you can organize each assignment with a planner and plan out how you would catch up), and to prevent becoming too tired/(burnt out) to do schoolwork. Breaks are important, and everyone needs time to refresh. No worries, you should be fine. Hope that helps. Not sure why I replied, but I guess I hope it helps. Sorry.

My family back then did not allow me to stay home when I was sick. At my school though, if it was determined by the school (also all the schools I've been to have the same policy) to be unsafe to go to school (too sick), the school would force kids to go home because school policy and leave a note for home as a way to prevent other students from becoming sick (my family tried to refuse and argue and refusing to pick me up but the school said no send home now and did not allow students to go back to class, I tried to go back to class but wasn't allowed to), or fever/stomach ache (since my school absolutely didn't allow students with fever or stomach ache to go to school to prevent outbreaks and would send home from class immediately) I guess once in a blue moon, otherwise I always went to school sick. Here's a story: My school even sent everyone home until a few days later or so during a major stomach bug virus outbreak affected a good portion of the school and we stood outside like a fire alarm, also was on the news, we went back only after it was found to be in the water fountains for that one day and when it was absolutely clean again. Also I have went to school with a sprained ankle and crutches last 2 weeks before the week high school graduation. Sorry my school was extremely specific.

For curiosity: I am now a college student with burnout (mental health low)/fatigue. I have learned over the years (during my college years-senior but I'm 25 [since I went to the wrong college-transferred so its good now]) that it is important to take care of yourself so you would be ready for school again when you get back, to prevent burnout, skipping is okay once now and then. Otherwise a student would not feel well anymore and miss more school and then it will snowball and grades would fall apart. Your years catch up to you eventually. Mental Health breaks are really important and crucial to well being. [Also college will be easier schedule wise as classes are only 1-3 times a week (no weekends) depending on class and you can choose what time you like, make sure to make it on time to get breakfast-dinner at dining hall/cafeteria I guess. Classes itself can be tougher sometimes- from a Physics Major.] Everyone needs to take care of their physical and mental well-being as that is something that can be forgotten when so busy. or pressured.
