Moved from Skipton to Harrogate in 1967 - I was 7. I remember the Gala days very clearly. Mum and Dad used to argue over how to pronounce the word. "Gay-leh" Dad would say in his strong Lancastrian accent. "Gaa-lah" Mum would correct with a tut. "It's French or something..." We had a school float from Greatwood Primary. A Bedford TK green and shiny as a new toy, trundling through sidestreets in the quiet of morning, on the way to join the main procession; its reflection, bedecked with garlands and streamers, rippling across the bay windows of terraced houses; a cargo of schoolkids, waving and pointing, all in their Sunday best...

I was born that year (1970) and my brother Anthony in late 1967, so obviously don't know about or remember this happening!

It's great to see my old stomping ground back in the day, I grew up where the film begins, changed quite a bit since then.
