Excellent video once again. Just one thing, O/L on the multimeter doesn't mean open circuit but over OVER LIMITS meaning the voltage is beyond the current range. Use manual range say 50 volts and you won't see this.

Omg thank you so much, I plugged out the cable, that was leading to the horn and one of the contacts was completely green, so i brushed it a little and its WORKING!!!

Dear Harvey, one more interesting and informative video from you. To give you the feedback, I have just disassembled the horn on my Fabia (MK1, 1.2HTP): as expected, the normal state is ~0V, and 11.88V when pressed (the same as Rui Pinto`s info). Cheers!

Hi, Thanks for your intriguing video, I think that Vintage.Lynx has it. I did some experiments with my autoranging multimeter and found that when I pressed the range switch successive times the display showed the decimal point moved from left to right one place with each press. Each press lowered the resolution in order to accomodate higher voltages. I reckon you have your meter set to volts showing only one digit to the left of the decimal place ie. displaying up to 9.999 volts and is therefore over range, a clue is at 6:20 in the video. My meter only goes back to Auto if I switch the thing off then back on. You could try experimenting with the meter accross the battery and pressing the range switch several times.

The meter shows OL when pressed which indicates a switched change proving the switch works.

After the video I tested in my Fabia 1.4 MPI 2003. When pressed the wheel switch I heard the relay clicking and in multimeter showed 12 Volt. After releasing the switch the relay clicked again and the multimeter showed 2 milivolts. The scale of your multimeter maybe it was settled to a value less than 12 Volt and give the OL message. My car still have a little card in the back of the fuse cover with the fuses layout and respective symbols. Regards. Edit: tested without the horn plugged.

I looked at the scale/range settings. I can change the range or auto-range, but still the same OLD reading when horn switch with or without being connected. I've seen someone test a 1.4 petrol with the same results as you, but mine just throws these results ???? Frustrating not to know just what is going on :-(

@@HatBoyHarvey what I wanted to say was to define the multimeter to ac voltage and repeat the test. Perhaps there is a pulsating voltage not detected in DC.

Heya, I’ve got no horn atm. I can’t hear a clicking noise either but I think I can hear the contacts when pushing the horn but not the relay.I’ve checked the fuse and it’s not that. Any help would be appreciated!

As with this video, I would use a volt meter to check the signal, but I got odd results possibly because of a short somewhere, but mine worked. You should get 12V, if not check all wiring form end to end. check the connection inside the steering wheel, but be very careful taking out the airbag. Horns also do go bad from time to time and don't cost much, next to nothing at a scrappers :-)

Thank you once again Harvey great vids. Would you be doing an appraisal of a Skoda Fabia's remote central locking, I have issues with my 1.9 fabia X reg where the keyring clicker fails to unlock or lock the car and as a result the alarm and immobiliser are still active. I have replaced both batteries in the clickers, however this hasn't helped. How you can help. Thanks.

How do you open the doors? Can you start the car and drive it? Have you replaced the driver's side door lock? Have you thoroughly checked the connections and wires for poor connections and fraying respectively?
@gareththomas5566
Жыл бұрын
@HatBoyHarvey many thanks for your reply Harvey, I can still open the doors with the key, however on doing so the alarm and flashers go off, I have disconnected the alarm fuse as not to annoy the neighbours, but flashers still flash. I think I can still drive the car, and as soon as I park up the flashers start flashing again. I haven't replaced anything or checked for frayed wires etc. One thing I didn't mention is once I've driven the car for a short time and park up I am able to lock and unlock using the key fob, however when I return say 4 hours later I'm only able to unlock using the key and not the fob. Is there a way of turning the immobiliser off. Thanks Harvey

Battery in the alarm siren goes in older cars so will need replacing. Also you should have alarm sensors on the bonnet a rear hatch that may be faulty and need freeing up. Re-connect the fuse. The immobiliser is separate, all cars have this and can't be deactivated. Your alarm is the issue and probably the siren. Wires going into door and lock also need looking at as these wear out. Make sure the car battery is in good order as this can also effect the alarm
