An absolutely fantastic how-to guide. Superb editing and delivery. I followed this for my Mk1 1.4TDI. Was virtually the same with a few subtle differences. I required a 32mm socket for my oil filter housing and 5W-30 oil. Everything else way the same at the 1.9TDI. Thank you Hatboyharvey, you saved me paying an extra £100 to a garage by empowering me to do it myself!

Excellent video, many thanks, you gave me the confidence to do an oil and filter change. Don't know if this would be useful to anyone but on Fabia Classic 1.4 8v there is no need to remove under tray as it is in a 'U' shape which allows access to the sump. Also pre VAG so sump plug is M16 X 1.5 X 12 different to later Fabias which I believe are M14.

Very good job! You are the first who mentioned the imoprtance of correct oil👍 Support your advice about 5w40 505.01=to use/buy the best that one can buy...If you're from Britain,then you have there a great choice,I would always use "domestic" oils like Comma PD Plus 5w40,Eneos Premium Hyper 5w40,Exol Optima Lsx 5w40,Havoline Ultra S 5w40,especially with ACEA C3, with or without DPF filter...

The list of valid oils with official approvals one can find on web page: erWin Volkswagen ( or erWinseat skoda and registration is needed,but no prob), and there are all good oils tested according to vw 502/505.01. Next video idea: Gear oil change 🌞 I've found somewhere for my car is the interval about 7-8y or 160.000-200.000km. My choice was Swag/Febi sae 75w Api Gl-4 (for 5MT type 02T), and for yours should be 75w-90 Api Gl-4/5 or with 4+,it is the same...these aren't hard to find,all are TDL gear oils,total drive line... Nowadays,every lub factory recommends the thinner oil...but as my opinion,this is not so good if vehicle has many kilometres or years...anyway, vw gear oil specs should be considered.
@HatBoyHarvey

@@HatBoyHarvey you're right.One should not be afraid of thinner oils. SAE 75W or maximum SAE 75W-80 both with API GL-4+Vw gear standards.( I don't know why in our service they put in friends Golf 1.4tsi 122Hp 75w-90 and GL-5!...) ...there are many examples,in my car they put 3-4 times 10w40 (instead of first choice 5w30 504/507,so in the end I've chosen 5w40 502 Acea C3,because Lpg is installed, I buy now the all material,oil,filters and then go in service)

@HatBoyHarvey
5 жыл бұрын
Place the axle stand on the solid part of the front subframe for this job, not the engine, the body or moveable component parts. Use the axle stand in conjunction with the side stand in place and also put the wheel under the body. Test the safety of the car yourself before going under it and if you are in any doubt of the car's safety don't go under it. Also have someone present or tell someone what you are doing.

Hi, how often you change the air filter.... annually or generally when it's black and full of dirt ?
@HatBoyHarvey
Жыл бұрын
A Qg0 standard service says you must change the air filter every 60,000Kms, but I think it is best to check it every year, take it out, bang and shake it then inspector for dirtiness on the surface of the filter material. Replace it before it gets too bad. It depends what environment, a dusty area will clogg the filter quicker. A clogged air filter effects engine performance and economy so it is worth keeping an eye on it and changing it out more frequently than the service schedule IMHO. Mine is changed out every 3-4 years roughly :-)

Question for you Harvey. The foam on the inside of the engine cover on my vrs 2004 is virtually gone, just one little piece left that is loose. I am guessing this is just to stop engine vibration. Is there a particular sort of foam I should use.. Heat resistant and non flammable I guess.

Hi HatBoyHarvey just wondered if you might know why I seem to be losing a small amount of oil from my 1.9 TDI Fabia. Seems to be coming near from the offside front wheel. I've tried to research this and it might be the intercooler or something?? Is there a reason why this would be leaking oil and is there a solution you could help with? Thank you
@HatBoyHarvey
3 жыл бұрын
The intercooler is just a radiator, there is no oil there. Oil vapour from PCV crank case breather pipe back in through the turbo. A little oil there won't harm anything, but if it seems to leak from a connection or you find a split in the pipe then that need rectifying as soon as :-)

hi is it possible to convert a manual wing mirror into a electric wing mirror on a fabia
@HatBoyHarvey
6 жыл бұрын
If you want to use the switch gear that comes part of the adjustment for the wing mirror and heating element on the door handle which also incorporates the electric front windows then it would be possible if the wiring connectors are in place and the comfort module (small electronic control unit ) and wiring loom under the right dash are the same. I guess it would be trial and error, have never done it, but should work if your can get all the parts from an electric windowed model, but bare in mind you may also need Vagcom to activate the functions to work:-)

The best you can afford at the time and change out regularly. Your handbook tells you the spec of oil. When I looked it was fully synthetic 5w 30, but is temp dependent on your country. The auto shop will have the exact spec for your engine :-)

@HatBoyHarvey

It is recommended. The washer compresses to seal the sump on first use only for optimum seal. Saying that I know guys that use the same plug for years without issue. The important thing is not to leak oil onto the road and not to strip out the sump by over-tightening the bolt. Best to use a torque wrench at 30Nm.
