This video is of our Skunk Train ride along with a few ham radio operators. There is nothing ham radio related on this video. You may see a HT here and there. We used HTs to communicate with each other and to monitor the railroad channel. I know many hams also enjoy trains and railroad, so here you go.
During the second week of July 2012 a group of ham radio operators from the northern California area spent a week camping at the KOA campground in Willits Ca. We did many activities together, including a bit of ham radio operating. On Thursday the group decided to ride the Skunk Train and the Trolley car. The Trolley car starts from Willits, with a stop at the campsite and goes to Northspur. The steam engine starts from Fort Bragg and also stops at Northspur. Northspur is about the middle of the distance from Fort Bragg to Willits. Passengers may transfer and continue or return to their starting location. Lunch is available during the nearly one hour stop. Our group split with some riding in each ride. I rode the steam train.
Greg Schindel was great to have along on the train. He was singing railroad songs for most of the trip. He was a lot of fun and kept us entertained. I based my whole video around his songs. CDs are available from his web page.
