Jay if you're not happy with the paint you could always have it re-powdercoated. Prismatic Powders River stone PTB-2614 is the appropriate color per Caselabs records 👍 If you want the original black it was Cardinal BK59.

I've been using that Seymour steel paint for years and it is fantastic. It has a very high solids content of actual steel so any surface texture gets accentuated. Spraying on a smooth surface will result in a smooth texture. As far as limes in the paint, that happens because you are holding the can too close. It's a transparent paint and needs to be held at about 15 to 18 inches from the surface and sprayed only in tac coats.

I like the black back, it adds a more modern vibe within' the industrial design and with the aftermarket parts, there is so many possibilities. It gives me flashbacks to the time I was watching your videos for the first time when you moved from a Corsair 900D to Skunkworks. I'm still rocking a Z97 Classified motherboard and a 4790K overclocked to 4.7 GHz, same combo as you had around that time.

Thank you for leaving the exterior of the case alone, scratches and all. That case has been around with you for a long time and I am glad you are building in it again. A large number of your subscribers found their way here because of Skunkworks and how much of a badass system it was. And now, will be again! Just remember, the more fluid there is in the loop, the longer it takes for it to heat up!! (HINT HINT!!)

Hey, if you're worried about keeping the texture with rattlecans, that's a pretty valid worry. The rattlecan nozzle puts out mondo big droplets and it would glop up the texture. You're best option, if you haven't finished it by now and decided to strip it with aircraft stripper is to use a micro gun, like the Iwata HP-TH2 Gravity Feed Dual Action Trigger Airbrush (name is a mouthful, I know). It lets you use 0.6mm needles which work great for fine atomization and prevents you from goobering up the texture. And when you're using an airbrush or mini paintgun, you get to mix your own colors. Createx works really well for painting on metal and they have some pretty wild colors. You can *really* make it your own once you jump into the air side of things.

I EXTREMELY rarely post comments, but figured I'd add my 2 cents on this one. Good call on the black/gun metal combo - it looks good, even though we can't see how scratched the original gun metal really is. 👍Quite frankly, either way would work for me, i.e. use the existing gun metal, or give it a nice, new fresh coat. Will be interesting to see the final result, and what colour lighting scheme will be used to match with the black/gun metal.

Still using my TH10A 10 years later, replaced the odd grommet over the years but that's it. CaseLabs cases were built solid AF. You could always try something like an automotive wrinkle paint for a base coat to add some texture to the panels if you're worried about infill of the bead blasted finish.

Jay, Phil and the gang, can't wait to see it done. Love the shading with the black and gun metal. I was inspired a while back (by your work😇) to paint my own build and I'm halfway done with it using Snow white and mother of pearl, with that silvery tint in the pearl, to act as kind of a shader in places where shade would occur in my opinion. Your automotive paint advice is what I went with. (thank you) I had to have the M O pearl mixed and put in a charged spray bottle cause I couldn't find it premade the way I liked it with enough silver metal flake to made it "shade". Not sure how it will look yet.

You want patina? Throw it out in the backyard for a couple years. Got scratches and textured paint? Use sandable primer and sanding blocks, a little Bondo here and there. Black and grey? Spice it up with two wildly contrasting colors. I got a white 4000D and wrapped three sides with Oil Slick carbon fiber, sprayed the interior and outer back panel with metal flake in clear and covered the power supply shroud and cable cover with white carbon fiber wrap. Did the front bezel and right side panel cyan and blue color shift with a white metal flake reaper stenciled on it.

On the center section, since the powder coat is stripping off with the aircraft remover, go ahead and completely strip it off. Then if the sheet metal is a smooth finish, get it sand blasted. that will give a somewhat of a texture for a thin coat of black paint. if a coarse texture is needed, different grades of sand blast material can be used.

When you're into some stuff and you look at things like SM8 and tell yourself: "It's too small for my needs"... Folding Caselabs always meant for me that the one and only manufacturer of cases capable of comfortably holding server-grade motherboards, stuffing them through the roof with storage and THEN watercooling everything. There are so many cases now that can do one or the other, but literal none that can do both... Except Thermaltake with its W100/W200, which is direct steal of CL's Magnum 10. For me it only meant going custom. I hope you will bring back this legend to it's deserved glory!

Semi-gloss black interior (Satin) w/ a metallic Gunmetal outside? I'd recommend sanding all of the original coating, cleaning it thoroughly, and then use a primer for a better surface finish but that's just how I'd do it. Self etching primer for troublesome surfaces - used a lot in automotive.

Jay, you could always have the paint matched at an automotive paint shop and re-spray the original color... most metallic spray paints have that uniformity problem. They take a _loot_ of practice to get right. And that bottom compartment looks like it could support _two_ 560 rads?
@Sgt_SealCluber
Жыл бұрын
Next case I get I'm making sure can fit at least two 560 rads since I like having a silent pc. Currently using the Thermaltake Tower 900 and though it can fit 560 rads, there isn't a whole lot of clearance from the PSU if you have the ports at the bottom. Drains are good. On a side note, it took getting THREE cases from Amazon before I had enough "good" parts to have a functioning case and there are still a number of cross-threaded thumbscrews. No idea if that was Thermaltake QC, Amazon warehouse, UPS, or some combination of the three.

i love how some old and more modern cases say they are "modular" but nothing has never come even close to the level of modularity that CaseLabs towers are :D i got the HAF 935 back in the day since they claimed it to be super modular and to have great water cooling support. but sadly if u wanted to use 360 rad on front u had to sacrifice the drive mounts and the routing holes on the case where in the most inconvenient spots to do any clean cable routing

a couple things you can do to help the flow of metallic paints, take your rattle cans and hold the can under running hot water as hot as you can stand to touch , when the can is warm remove it and shake it , you will feel the can go cold due to the propellant , do this several times till the can and propellant normalizes then spray at 50% overlap in 3-4 light coats before with each coat allowed 5-10 minute flash times, doing this does a couple things, it helps the pressure better atomize the paint, it allows for a finer broadcasting of the paint which evens out your blotchiness just remember light coats, 5-10 minute flash time and 50% overlap, let the paint fall on the surface from about 10-15 inches away, oh and Metallics will always look better if the faces you are painting are face up and not hanging like your paint stand ...you had them hanging, the metallics won't lay flat if your parts are hanging they will stand up which can also gives you a uneven look
