I think I met him at a Cargo Lion BBQ. My Dad was an engineer with them.

Really, love to hear how he is doing now, one of my childhood heros. Tell your father that I watched this documentary as a kid & converted my only toy airplane to a cargo by cutting a large door. I still have this toy & now my kids & me are playing with it. My kids also love this documentary & kids love your father a lot, they call him Pilot Grandpa :)

Great seeing the Loadmaster JJ. We worked together on another airline (cargo). We started flying racehorses all over the world. Myself and JJ met several times down route when we worked for other airlines. Great video thanks a million. Graham🇬🇧🇬🇧

Good old days when Discovery channel wasn't dominated by full of drama, fake reality tv-shows... Early ale Cargo Pion DC-8 and DC-10 were scrapped

Yep, halcyon days indeed! Ditto for the History Channel. Sadly, it says a lot about us as a society that we discard informative and real programming for so-called “reality TV”.

Such a great documentary, also remember when it was broadcasted. As a child I was amazed to hear Dc-8 engines, see the real operations for first time. Thanks for the upload!

Love these BBC Aviation documentaries, very addictive. Looks to be the early to mid-1990s era. Flying into Nigeria is always an adventure, I have been in and out of LOS (passenger) several times over the years, you have to experience Murtala just once just to say that you did it…wild place.

I think part of the passion for the job was for the beautiful old first and second gen airliners these lucky crews got to fly around in. Those days will never come back now. Who wants to fly a computer? These jets filled a need in the 90's and 2000's, it was such fun back then to be at an airport, 737 classics, 747 classics, DC-10's and TriStar's, 727's, BAC 111's, DC9's and Bae 146's, DC8's and 707's, VC 10's, Trident's and Concorde, even 757's and 767's. All gone now, swept away with the passage of time. What do we have now? Generic and boring looking aircraft, 787's and a myriad of moribund Airbuses. Give me back the planes that had character, give me back a world that was interesting.

Being a loadmaster myself, I totally relate to JJ. It wipes you out, but there’s no better job! 👍🏻
