Little bit of Movie Trivia for you, When Ms Moneypenny hands Bond the box at the end (with the British bulldog inside) there is an inscription on it that reads "From the estate of Olivia Mansfield bequeathed to James Bond", revealing M's name.

He did know her name, although Kincaid called her Emma, unless that was her middle name. Olivia is Judi Dench's middle name.

This is my favorite of the Daniel Craig James Bond movies and it's also one of my favorite James Bond movies overall. Skyfall was the first James Bond movie to make a billion dollars at the box office and was nominated for five Academy Awards, winning two including best original song by Adele. This also came out during the 50th anniversary at the James Bond movies and the Easter eggs and references of past Bond movies was done better then it did for the 40th anniversary movie Die Another Day. I love the return of Q and Miss Moneypenny, the return of the old padded door from the past Bond movies and of course the Aston Martin DB5. Skyfall is one beautiful looking movie and it's definitely a favorite of mine.

Yeah, this is a good one, definitely my favourite Daniel Craig Bond. I'm one of those who didn't like Quantum of Solace as much. It had some good moments and some fantastic set pieces, but I didn't love the shaky cam, and I wasn't all that invested in the water prices in Bolivia. Oh well. On the off chance you're interested, I tried my hand at the reaction thing. I only did Mandy (2018) so far, but I would love some feedback (other than "open your mouth when speaking"; I knew that the second I listened to it). The channel is called CynicalReactions (with "at" in front of it, I can't post it that way) (and feel free to delete this, obviously)

It'd been 3 months between the shot and M being told retirement soon. "Three months ago you lost the disk.. " Also you might have been thinking of Brosnan's Bond with 'another agent who felt abandoned' - he was left in similar situation to Rodriguez, complete with the torture, albeit no cyanide capsule as Bond had thrown his away years ago. Also also, I seem to remember there was suggestion Connery was going to cameo as Kincade, but ultimately all agreed not to as his appearance might overshadow the movie.

Woot woot! Glad you guys enjoyed this one so much- isn't it great? Man... it was great to get a little more of the backstory- coming back to the "old ways" and getting a little more in the "roots" of the movies too! Back to the basics! Now for your next one... I really enjoy it too. Personally, while some others didn't like it as much- I would put it right under this one for my favorite of the DC era... if for one reason only- I love the villain casting! Hehe you'll see when you get there.

It's not my favourite, but it is a good film - except for those damn CG "dragons." That felt like a Roger Moore moment, if they had CG to use for a Moore film. I look at it like I look at Goldfinger. Some iconic moments, and it's certainly shot better than Goldfinger, even when you're taking into account 60s movies, but it definitely has it's cheesy moments and I don't watch Bond films for cheese. He's a government hitman who gets women and drinks martinis.

I loved seeing this one in theaters, one of the only movies I've gone back to see a second time. My main complaint though is how they aged Craig's Bond so quickly. He was a fresh agent in his first 2 films, those were supposedly his first missions, now one film later he's already washed up and past his prime.

The skyscraper fight between Patrice and Bond wasn't filmed in Shanghai; it was filmed a stone's throw from Liverpool St station in central London - I used to walk past it every day on my way to work! The lighting in that scene is stunning, though, I agree.

Cutting out bullet fragments is small fry compared to the kind of guys Bond is based off. Bond is supposed to be ex SAS and Ranulph Fiennes (ex SAS) famously climbed Everest and returned with gang green fingers that he didn't want to wait for the op to have them removed, so he cut off his fingers in his own shed with a saw. Different breed. 🤣

While I have issues with some of the plotting (Silva's plan is very convoluted and that whole villain getting deliberately captured thing was done to death at the time) it is thematically where it shines and I love it for that. There is a lot going on here especially for a Bond film. And it's such a beautifully made film too from Sam Mendes elegant direction to the well staged action setpieces to the stunning cinematography by the genius Sir Roger Deakins. Definitely one of my fave Bonds.

NOW to one more SUPER important note- You mentioned the LIGHTING and shots/long-takes several times... I can't remember if you have or haven't but, if you two haven't seen in, you NEEEEEEED to watch 1917 (the WWI movie). What a phenomenal movie. I say it not only because it is "hauntingly beautiful" with incredible juxtaposition of beauty vs the ravages of war, but it was the *same director* as this movie. And he really takes this style of composition and lighting and cranks it to 11 with 1917.

I enjoyed this one, but I'm not going to pretend it's quite in the same league as Casino Royale, let alone the early Connery films. It's a good movie with a good soundtrack and a poignant ending. At least we get to learn a bit about Bond's backstory, which we never do in the other films. A lot of people don't like that Bond is very human in these films and fallible, but having read the Ian Fleming novels, I was really getting tired of how out of control and sci fi the movies were becoming. Nothing was grounded in reality. I'm not saying the Craig films after Casino were terribly realistic, but at least we get some badass moments here, like Bond's reaction to his Aston Martin getting blown up, which reminded me a lot of Dalton busting the balloon in The Living Daylights. It's a great moment in terms of storytelling. I don't like movies where everything comes too easily for the protagonist. He has to work to get the bad guy here. There's no big, convenient gadget that saves 007. He has to be a real spy and use his intelligence and his athleticism to get out of situations. He can't just push a button and get all the cheat codes like a video game.

This is based on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. There's inky memories in the credits, a stag horcrux, a villain without a nose, falling through a frozen ice pool, struggle in the icy depths, resurrecting old ghosts, graveyard, final showdown in a great hall. Voldy. The song was terrible BTW. Skyfall, rumble, tumble...
