Ancient tombs guarded by hordes of the dead and ancient mechanisms requiring specific keys should be near impossible to get into! Unless you know where the exit door is and have a pickaxe and maybe some rope. Pity that the base game doesn't allow for a Miner build. You'd be able to skip 90% of the game. Who needs the ancient shouts of the Dovha, when you have basic mining equipment?

If the tombs were meant to keep things in... then why are there the 'exit shortcut doors'? The seal for the Claw doors are on the outside. If you are inside, you cannot open them. But the shortcut exits are usually opened by a single pulled chain or lever. The reasoning behind the picture puzzles is that the Draugr are too stupid to solve those simplistic puzzles. But why bother even with the picture puzzles, if they're too stupid to pull a chain or a lever to get out, as is often the case with most of the shortcut exits. Now, of course, those doors exist for the players convience, and are a nice addition to the game. I just like laughing at how much a guy with a pickaxe and some rope would be able to bypass, thanks to the many secret stone sliding doors that open out to short cliffs.

yeah, having a way to get no spell cost isn't that good when the spells suck at scaling. tbh, i've got a mod on the ps4 (cause its pretty limited in mods) that not only increases the element damage perks to 100% with 4 perk points, also makes spells scale in effect with mastery in that skill tree. so, destruction spells can end up 400% stronger, which does make them a lot more competitive/interesting. you might even be able to use the fire and ice master spells offensively without getting repeatedly knocked out of the casting animation and dying.

A couple of additions: 1. Add Alchemy. Fortify destruction potions are a vital part of keeping destruction damage up. 2. Consider how to deliver weakness to (element) poisons. Having a crossbow to give bosses a dose of weakness to fire is a superb way to ramp up your damage for those times it's needed. 3. Don't forget the Disintegrate/Intense Flames/Deep Freeze! Regular impact doesn't stagger the huge beasts... unless you have one of those perks. 4. When you're in that between-zone where you don't have destruction costs completely reduced, try using double-handed (2 1-handed) spells for dps and save the dual-casted impact for when you really need it.

You missed two things. One, that the damage perks affect weapon enchantment damage, and that there is an interaction between Destruction and Illusion. Intense Flames, combined with the Fear perks in Illusion, increase the DoT damage from Ignite exponentially, even on Legendary you can stack enough burn damage to take down legendary dragons in no time at all. You don't even need high Enchanting, it's an Apprentice level spell and very cheap to cast. Dual cast to stagger and most enemies should have just stayed home.

Get 100 enchanting. Get double effect. Get two enchantment buffing elixirs - you don't even have to bug one, just a couple off of a vendor or the respawning (I believe) ones that you can steal from the archmage's quarters (or your quarters, after the quest line) is enough. From there =========== 1.) Use the potion 2.) Enchant helm, chest, ring, and necklace with fortify destruction. 3.) Use another potion (if you're slow to enchant) 4.) Fortify Restoration 5.) Infinite ranged damage, health, and stamina (with the respite perk) for literally 0 magicka. Aside from falling damage (which the ethereal shout can negate) you're a god. This will give you over 100% destruction and restoration cost reduction with the proper enchanting perks and human-filled black soul gems. From here you can pump all your points into health because of the infinite stamina and health regen. It does start out a bit slow though for a fresh character. Make sure to get a Black Azura's Star to help leveling it. Go to the college and other soul gem rich locations to farm them quick and often when they're set to respawn. So that's it folks. The best way to make destruction good is to focus on enchanting. And probably conjuration with bound weapons and the soul trap perk for free, infinite soul trapping action until that point. Oh. Also Master Destruction is crap. Lightning storm, fire storm, blizzard... the occupy two hands, so if you're 'power gaming' destruction then you're going to want to stop at expert level spells for impact staggering. It's broken. Perma dual-casting in a dragon's face so that it can't even do anything but frequently recoil? Broken. As. Fuck.

honestly, the other stuff gets WAY better by using enchanting too, so really, this doesn't matter as much. and sure you can stunlock foes, but its annoying to dualcast fireball 25 times to kill a bandit at level 150. and the lightning storm spell's not bad, really. its got great damage, range, and speed, and unlike the fire storm and blizzard, which are fucking stupidly 2s charge then meh explosion AOE, and you'd have to charge again, its like a kamehameha - charge once, then hold the damage like the earlier flamethrower type spells, but with more range. you're sorta stuck in place, but it's still pretty decent for a good long while even around 150 on most foes, especially anywhere with tight corridors that enemies in the next room will funnel through, like in buildings or caves, or really any dungeon since bethesda's got a limited view on design.

When you put perks in the augmented fire and shock, in the illusion skill tree concerning fear spells and take intense flames afterwards, your elemental blast, which is the strongest elemental spell, will do 168 fire and 168 shock damage separately. The Creation Club solved it again by having the Arcane Accessories pack, which is really the only thing worth the 100 free credits; giving you a 600-900 dual casted expert spell (depending if you have an elemental priest mask or not) at a fraction of the cost of vanilla expert spells.

I'm gonna dissent here, the fortify destruction potions are fantastic. There are many easy ways to make them, and even with basic alchemy gear, at 100 alchemy you can easily make ones that boost damage by 150%. My incinerate spell does 250 damage and is free, and that's without a dragon priest mask boosting fire damage. Just the fire perks in destruction, and aspect of terror in illusion. You can make the potions from renewable and plentiful ingredients (night shade+glowing mushroom e.g.) So that you essentially have an unlimited supply, especially with green thumb and sinderions serendipity. With those, and with free destruction spells from gear, and impact, destruction is honestly extremely overpowered, all in vanilla. *I just realized that's not even accounting for dual casting damage increase. If you dual cast incinerate, it will do 2.2*250=550 which is nothing to sneeze at!

There's a mod called Deadly Destruction that increases the damage of destruction spells as you level the skill. By the time you're at 100 destruction, the spells do double damage. At first it sounds overpowered and unfair, but by the time your level is that high, you need that extra damage to play a viable mage character. It's balanced and really helpful.

And double the damage of the spells with the augmented perks, which also increase their respective elemental damage. Also the only legitimate way to get a chaos damage and frost damage stalhrim weapon that does over 1000 damage a hit... sooooo i think that destruction is well worth it in the expert level. My daedric swords both have 810 displayed damage in my inventory. Each is enchanted with a combination of 99 fire and 99 shock damage. That is over 1000 damage(on Adept. Over 250 on Legendary). My Bows(daedric, dragonbone) have over 1000 displayed damage in my inventory with the same enchantments(over 1200 damage on Adept no matter what arrow I use, more than 300 on Legendary). My unenchanted steel dagger has a displayed damage of 269. If I do a stationary power sneak attack with Dark Brotherhood gear on my hands I can multiply that by 75(Assassin's Blade 15x, gear 2x, power attack 2x, Savage Strike 1.25x). That is over 20,000 damage on Adept and over 5000 on Legendary(overkill to one shot Legendary dragons and Karstaag). This is all done legitimately with the Legendary version of Skyrim patch 1.9 with all DLC and no mods. I don't use the restoration potion glitch, I don't use necromage vampire buffs, and I don't use Alchemy head gear stacking. I do max all my crafting skills and perk them well. I use the Relics of Ahzidal and black book Sallow Regent to their full potential. I also use the Ancient Knowledge active effect from completing the quest Unfathomable Depths. It buff all armor(light and heavy) by 25% except Dwarven and improves tempering by 15%. I get the augment perks in Destruction to buff weapon enchants.

Didn't you say you had 1100 listed damage stalrim sword with those enchantments which doesn't take advantage of stalrim special effect? The problem with sneak attacks is it takes forever to set up melee sneak kills and for sneak archery has large gaps in damage from waiting for the target to become unaware again after every shot or two. Sneak, and especially melee sneak really tanks efficiency for the sake of high burst damage.

What isn't mentioned here, is the synergy between your destruction skill level and the 9 perks on the left that enhance fire, frost, and shock, and your enchantments that add destruction magic damage types to your weapons, and elemental resistance enchantments on armor. When you add say frost damage to a weapon, there are 6 things that effect the power level, and number of charges you can place on it. 1) Enchanting skill level 2) Enchanter perks 3) Frost Enchanter Perk 4) Destruction skill level 5) Augmented Frost perks 6) Soul Gem Additionally the Deep Freeze perk will also effect frost damage dealt with your enchanted weapon, giving a 15% chance of encasing an enemy in ice and thus paralyzing them. Having a higher destruction skill allows you to enchant a weapon with higher (destruction type) damage and more charges. Augmented Flames/Frost/Shock will increase that damage potential even more without reducing number of charges. The parts from the Enchanting skill are pretty self explanatory, and so is the soul gem. Now, when enchanting armor with elemental resistance, destruction skill is not critical, however the Augmented perks are. Remember these increase the power of all magic having to do with fire, frost, and shock. Meaning they increase the power of your resist fire/frost/shock enchantments. If you're planning to play a build based around a slayer of the undead, you'll undoubtedly be going after Dawnbreaker. Here again, Destruction skill is valuable in regards to the Augmented Flames perks, and Intense Flames perk which will increase Dawnbreaker's fire damage in your hands. Additionally the Restoration perk, Necromage, will enhance Dawnbreaker's turn undead effect. Likewise Chillrend is improved by having Augmented Frost and Deep Freeze. This also applies to making and using magic staves.
@jtenorj
7 жыл бұрын
IDK if you're playing a modded game, but Augment[Element] does not effect resistance enchants in unmodded Skyrim. I'm also fairly certain things like Intense Flames, Deep Freeze and Disintegrate do not kick in while using weapons enchanted with the related elemental effects. I can't really speak to that, because while I do make weapons with elemental enchantments I almost never get those perks. I don't like Disintegrate because ash piles clutter one's save files and slow things down. I don't like intense flames because I want to hit the enemy, not have them run away. A similar effect to deep freeze can be achieved when dual casting Ice Storm. I mostly make weapons with fire and shock damage as many things in Skyrim are resistant to frost. I only make a frost and shock Imperial bow when I'm delivering the forged documents to the Legate in Morthal so I can stay undercover more easily should a dragon decide to attack the town at that particular moment in time.
@Random_Chiroptera
7 жыл бұрын
jtenorj I do stand corrected, you are correct, augmented perks don't effect resistances, my apologies. However, I can attest that they absolutely have a bearing on weapon enchantments. The trick with the additional element effects , like Deep Freeze for instance, is dealing damage when their health is low, without actually killing them, which is why it can be a rarity to see it at all. Augmented perks do affect the potential damage level of elemental enchantments you can place on a weapon, and destruction skill level determines how many charges you can get out of weapon enchantments of the destruction type. Same goes for magical staves. But I say, why bother with elemental resistance enchantments, when magic resistance protects from all of them, including poison damage, and nonmagical environmental damage, like fire traps.
@jtenorj
7 жыл бұрын
I know the Augment perks affect weapon enchants. It's part of how I can put both 99 fire and 99 shock on my bow and swords. I wear 3 35% destruction enchants so my weapons never run out of charges(unless I accidentally use them without all my destruction gear equipped. Even then the drop in charge is slow). Maybe you are thinking of Spell Absorption(as far as poison goes). You can get 100% Spell Absorption as a vampire with the Necromage perk, Atronach perk and Atronach Stone. I don't personally do that since I detest the vast majority of vampires(save Serana and her mom, maybe Hert the Falkreath Mill owner). Magic resistance is capped at 85%. If you combine it with elemental resistances(also capped at 85%) you can resist a total of 97.75% of elemental damage(including the likes of flame traps). High level dragons can deal 200 damage with their breath attacks. This is 600 damage on Legendary. Both resistances help a lot.

When talking about the benefits of each element of destruction magic, he forgot to mention that, though a large portion of enemies have a resistance to frost, many of those same enemies with frost resistance also have a weakness against fire. Undead (drauger and vampires), frost trolls, and (I believe) dremora. Then all mages can be countered with storm destruction due to its passive ability to drain the targets magica.

Another reason why magic sucks: The only way to make a viable offensive magic build is by stacking magic absorption effect because Bethesda thought it was a brilliant idea to heavily nerf magicka and stamina regeneration while in combat. I've tried making a mage build without absorption (purely focusing on magicka regeneration) and it's just not enough.
@leeman27534

If you want to go the all schools route it's not only about magicka regen, you also need high magicka and cost reduction from the perks and also from the shalidors insight scrolls if you're still having trouble casting certain spells. There are also things you can get that help with this, like elsewhere fondue and a ring from dawngaurd and also morokei and nakrahim masks and i guess vokun. Archmages robe is decent for mages as well. Note to get the ring you have to side with the vampires and do the sidequests, but it's worth it because it's basically a permanent elsewhere fondue.

With the right setup destruction is very op on legendary even in late game. 1.Use alchemy! It’s the most overlooked skill in this game. Fortify destruction potions (glowing mushroom+ nightshade) give you about a 40% DAMAGE increase with 3 perk points and 25 levels in the alchemy tree and aroun 200% damage with max enchanting and alchemy. 2.the impact perk: breaks the game if paired with 100% spell reduction, you can constantly stagger a good amount of enemy’s and they can’t touch you. 3. Azidahls ring of arcana: this thing is just a chesse honestly it doe’s burning damage witch stacks and on it’s full potential almost deals 200 damage per second I think all while chain staggering the opponent. I’m not joking a level 20 character could beat the ebony warrior on legendary with this thing. 4. Buy enchantments: if your not feeling like leveling your enchanting skill just bring a view hundred gold to the clothing shop in solitude and punch this annoying elf until you have your needed enchantments (kind of tedious and expensive though) 5. Stop leveling: combat in Skyrim is the most fun around 30-40 if you ask me if you are worried about the late game just put your build together and stop leveling when you got everything you want

Conjuration doesn't need another school to be OP, nor does illusion. As long as you have enough magicka to summon a thrall or two, you're a god. If you can cast illusion spells, you can control your enemies to kill each other, making fodder for conjuration. Restoration can make you nearly immortal on its own. Alteration, though not a direct damage school, warps reality. Destruction needs another school to make it show up and do its job. The problem is that Destruction doesn't scale. Illusion and conjuration scale because they are schools that control NPC's. NPC's scale with level and difficulty. Destruction does not scale. The weapon skills even scale damage as you access more perks. If you add smithing and enchanting to weapons, they do damage that destruction can't even touch. You might as well just enchant a bow, make it legendary, and add archery skill enchantments rather than bring destruction spells to a fight.

this sounds nicer. increasing magicka reflects both for casting as well as spell damage, so gives more of a benefit, and making it stronger makes more sense than making it be castable indefinitely, a lot of the point of the mage is, you're using/managing a somewhat limited resource, but you're getting some serious bang for your buck. pumping a mage's magic stat generally both increases max mp as well as magic damage, and this reflects that without an actual magic stat. potions decreasing spell costs is kinda nice/fitting too, cause you're always gonna want more damage, and generally the idea is to try to cast without using even more resources if possible, then if needed, use extra resources. potions for decreased casting is sorta the opposite end of mana refill potions - try to mitigate the use of mana somewhat. kinda made do with two perks, one that makes the elemental damage perks go to 100% for 4 perk points, and one that scales magic to that school's level, so 100% at 100 destruction, with 100 destruction and 100% from 4 perks in fire damage boost, for instance, a fire spell would be 400% stronger. and that sort of made them better, but i still prefer the sort of feel of 'mages using magic to cast powerful stuff' thing. do kinda wish those bonuses were a bit higher, though, double without changing anything else (though its not like you couldn't get another mod to do like i just said these two did) isn't really enough.

Destruction magic has the most OP attack in the game, by retrieving one of Azidahl's rings, the one that gives the character the ignite spell, you can wipe out any enemy with ease. The attack causes the enemy to take 4 points of damage/ sec for something like 10 seconds, combine that with the the Destruction perks that increase fire damage, and the illusion perk Aspect of terror (there's a hidden mechanic in that perk that causes fire to do more damage) and you get the damage up to 12 points/sec. That still seems insignificant? Until you realize that that damage stacks with every attack that hits. Hit the enemy twice, 24 points of damage/sec, and so on. You can wipe out the toughest of enemies in no time, on the most difficult setting. (I may have seen a video about that on this channel, I don't remember)

You can reach up to 260 dps with lighting storm and maxed equipment. And 260 is not bad. However, you get easely rekt by dualwielding builds with enchantments who do about 310 dps...atleast.

The only reason why i switch to Destruction spells, ((fire,electricity)) in Dwarven ruins is because it is amazingly effective against the mechanisms and Falmer, Chaurus. If you also have J'zargo as your follower, he has electric spells, combine that with fire, and you won't even need to worry about armour, or health.

I’m glad I saw this video on time bc I just created a character. I decided to make a Breton warrior that uses 2 handed weapons preferably the war hammer. I’ve included heavy armor and conjuration so that dremora lord can assist me along with my follower Lydia that has all the health/magic resist enchanting. She uses a shield with block 40% and magic resist and a mace with absorb health and paralyze. Meanwhile I have enchants with 2h dmg and stam on most my gear some with conjuration spell red. Lvl 35 playing on legendary and both dremora lord and Lydia can take a group of 5. So the reason I liked this video is bc I’ve been locking destruction while they Fuk shit up. I haven’t put points in destruction bc I was wondering if destruction at later levels is meaningless. Seeing this tho I’m going to stop lvling destroy and just help them Fuk shit up faster

Alchemy potions of fortify destruction can make destruction do more damage. There are also potions that lower the resistance of enemies and can be applied via bound bow

Destruction isn't fantastic in the late game?! Because of that stagger thing when you use both hands to cast magic the game becomes easy mode, just stick to the weak fireballs and you will kill everything in the game easily. The only thing that I couldn't kill easily was that giant ghost superboss in one of the expansions because you can't stagger him.

You can stagger Karstaag with dual cast fire spells, but you need at least one rank of Augment Flames(or both).

It's still garbage late game. I can either stagger 1 enemy at a time to death in 60 seconds while all his friends take free hits at me, or I can swing my sword 3 times kill it and move on to the next one
@Killishness1337

6powersofM it's a shame, especially playing in legendary where you only do 1/4 damage, and enemies inflict 3x damage to you. But I like the sound that the Thunderbolt spell makes, when you cast it in 3rd person it's sounds so intimidating. And using shock spells depletes magika from enemy mages. Playing at level 78 in legendary, most mages will kill me if I tried running up to them. So I use shock
@oscara8454

Fire Scales the Highest in damage. There is a Hidden effect of the perk Aspect of terror in the Illusion skill tree. The Aspect of Terror perk in Illusion increases the damage of Fire-based spells. If you get the perk while having zero ranks of Augment Flames your fire spell damage will increase by 10. Adding the perk while having Augment Flames 1/2 will add 12 damage to your fire spells, and adding Aspect of Terror while having Augment Flames 2/2 will add 15 damage to your fire spells. This makes Fire the highest scaling of the 3 elements of destruction magic in the game. It is not game breaking but it makes taking fire as your main element worth it. I would take Lightning as my back up element and not bother casting Frost spells. Additionally Augmented perks increase Enchantments so when paired with the enchanting skill tree you can make some pretty cool enchanted weapons and armor (if you do glitch potions, if you glitch perk points arent worth investing in). I like to use 2/2 Augmented perks each element, Salithium weapon, and putting Chaos on the weapon to get fat hits. Bonus if you use dragon priest masks and glitch all 3 damage bonus ones on your character...your weapon can smack for very high tag on damages. Worth it as main source of Damage no, worth it on an enchanter based character, ABSOLUTELY!!!!

I did my first playthrough with a Sneak-Assassin Khajiit build then jumped for my 2nd run to a Sneak-Illussion-Spy build and both are very fun. Both have stealth as their core but they take different approaches and different ways to roleplay. If you have problems getting into magic builds I suggest you do a build like a "Runic Warrior" (1 or 2 handed but also add Alteration and Destruction magic). I'm sure you'll have lots of fun with it :)

i had this video on to see another players take just out of curiosity. One thing I feel like could be mentioned is that potions of fortify destruction increase damage. An alchemist-mage build is a lot of fun to play because alchemy can be used to improve any skill in the game by allowing you to make them more effective (spells more effective, more armor rating, more effective with weapons, ect.)

There is a bug (sort of) where if you enchant 4 pieces of armor to each have 25% reduction to magica (could be any type of magic), the spell would cost nothing. However, it's not that fun after a while. It is absolutely overpowered when you use the master shock laser beam spell

Markus Wiedner you don't need a mod to cast master level spells unhindered. A single word of the Become Ethereal shout is more than enough time of damage immunity to cast any master spell. Granted you still can't move around doing that, but it's an option available to pretty much every mage unless you happen to be playing as a character who isn't the Dragonborn and therefore cannot use shouts.

The fact that you need essentially an exploit to remove magicka costs, the thing that's supposed to be holding the mage's power back, to even compete with warriors, archers and assassins as a destruction mage, just goes to show how broken the balance is. And if you do get yourself enchanted gear with 100% magicka cost reduction, other spell schools like illusion and alteration are much more worth it (illusion=permanent invisibility while your enemies kill each other, alteration=permanent 80% damage reduction and paralysis spam)

Apparently Destruction builds are manageable as long as you have a companion/summons to take the damage for you. Even as a pure mage conjuration and illsuion are the best supporting skills use summon atronachs or necromancy follow it up with frenzy spell While your guards soak the damage you'll kill them in the backline it's really simple even on legendary as long as all the schools of magic works together it will function unlike warrior or thief where you only need 2 or 3 skills to function well. It's basically op when you get all the schools working together for you as the character.

Disintegration is when you start to feel MORE like a God. It reminds me of Raiden's fatality in the classic Mortal Kombat (okay, in the censored SNES port, but still, it works for him). All we need is the weird chanting (in the style of Richard Epcar or... whoever did it for the classic arcade games...).

I got an idea to basically mitigate the whole problem of having to use magicka to cast spells when you could use that magicka for other things like alteration and conjuration: if you have the dragonborn dlc just enchant your own staffs. The augmented damage perks for each element carry over to the staffs, so they'll be doing the same amount of damage as your spells would, so you could use that in one hand and have your other hand free to cast any other spells without wasting magicka on destruction

So basically dump all your upgrades into magika, get the dual casting with shock damage bonuses, and stagger opponents repeatedly until your massive magika pool and low cost lightning bolt spells drop them. Sounds like fun!

If you're going to play as a Mage, you may as well take advantage of their crafting skill(Enchanting). With 100 Enchanting and perks that actually boost your enchantments, you can use some Grand Soul Gems to make a set of gear with zero Magicka cost for a school of magic(two schools on one set with the Extra Effect perk). Then you can spend more on health and/or stamina instead of Magicka and dual cast Expert spells for free. You can drop enemies much faster with Expert spells compared to Apprentice spells(save Ignite which is a huge exception). You can even use Enchanting together with Alchemy to make some really powerful Fortify Destruction potions. Yes, Alchemy is the crafting skill of Thieves in this game, but in past Elder Scrolls games it was the domain of Mages, and even in Skyrim you can still see the ties between them(Hall of Countenance and Arch Mage's Quarters where most of the College faculty stay both have Alchemy labs with many ingredients, pretty much every court mage has both an Arcane Enchanter and an Alchemy Lab, many court mages can be found working at Alchemy Labs, etc).

Try the illusion perk fear to boost fire damage and necromage and you can get over 260 damage per hit with incinerate, which is faster than any bow, got range over melee and always staggers. At level 50+ you will almost certainly have the enchanting for 0 cost spells. Try ignite (Azidials ring) for lower levels which kills everything (even level 100 plus) because it stacks. Destruction is ALWAYS good at any level. Has lower damage output but makes up for it in speed and stagger. Also can be boosted with destruction potions, so damage output is high enough to one hit kill most things at high level on legendary and is faster than any bow, even zephyr.

Im 74 and i love destruction. Obviously its not as powerful as say one handed but with NO GLITCHES ive enchanted daedric armor and jewelery to have no mana cost with all destruction and restoration spells. Ive invested a perk into restoring stamina while healing and man is it fun. I just run around casting all sorts of fireballs, lightnings, frozen spikes and runes and when the enemies get through my max improved legendary daedric armor, I just heal and get my stamina back with one quick spell without mana cost. If all the destruction stuff turns out to be not enough with some tougher enemies on higher difficulty, i also have +94% one handed damage on THE SAME ARMOR and with my max improved legendary daedric sword i deal 412 dmg per one uncharged hit. If you want to know how to do it, write a reply on this comment and ill make a tutorial because im rather proud of my setup 😁
