Thanks for the review. I bought a Mevo+ over a year ago and I can’t be happier. I went with Mevo+ because of initial cost. The Skytrack comes with several annual subscription options and the Mevo+ comes with a lifetime subscription to a 5 course IOS version of E6. I also purchased a lifetime subscription to Awesome golf, which is not possible with Skytrack.

I just had to return my garmin r10 cause i was hitting out on my back porch (only place with high enough ceilings/clearance) into a net. It was getting extremely terrible numbers even after making sure it was on the same height as the golf mat, 8 ft from garmin --> ball, 8 ft from ball --> net. Have you hit this into a net outdoors or nah? I don't want to have to get a 2k device just to have to return it. That's why I was kind of leaning towards the skytrak (also cause i suck and I can put the net a little closer...stopping some of those shankies).

Couple of things you didn’t cover: a) what data parameters are provided by each LM and whether they are measured or calculated, and b) with Mevo+ launching fusion tracking free update which will use the camera in conjunction with the radar, I suspect it will improve further on accuracy and possibly making it way more superior than Skytrak.

Very fair comparison. When I was looking to upgrade from my old Mevo (not + version) that I used at the range to something I could use in my garage, I went with Skytrak. I love it and it suits my situation perfectly. But there are three primary drawbacks: 1) Device alignment is so critical to get right and takes time each session to get it dialed in, which is a manual/trial and error process. 2) Skytrak does not capture angle of attack and club face at impact data which would be helpful for some of the swing changes I'm trying to practice. 3) My gamer driver has an all white clubhead which seems to really confuse the Skytrak cameras and results in wayward ball flight readings. I imagine that these would not be issues for Mevo+ users.

Great analysis - I really wish I had seen this review before I bought a Skytrak on Nov 26, 2021, from Amazon, for the purpose of practice … but you hadn’t made it yet. I have a net off my patio in the back yard where I wanted to use it. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that the photographic nature of this unit just won’t work properly outdoors. I’m also really disappointed that the Skytrak support people wouldn’t tell me this, either. They kept saying “do this, do that, it will “help.” I finally decided it’s just not going to work no matter how many screens I put up. The return window had closed. I ended up selling it to the golfstixvalue guys for $1200, basically an $800 bath. I’m now waiting for the Garmin R10 to come available - at $600, it looks like what my patio needs.

Technically the Titleist RCT aren’t approved for the Mevo+ at this time. Hence the metallic dot helps pick up the spin rate better on the balls. I’d be interested to see if you get better spin results on the Mevo+ using the metallic dots in another run of comparing units. Or if you still have the data, just run the Mevo+ with the dots and see if they are closer to the trackman spin rates.

I bought SkyTrak in December of 2019. I use it in my garage. I 💯 agree with everything in this review, regarding the SkyTrak. Side note: I use regular golf balls, that I find at the course where I play. If the ball has no logo, or writing, the SkyTrak won’t see it, but regular logo golf balls work fine. Additionally, it would not register shots that I took with my Lag Shot (blue shaft). I ended up painting the Lag Shot shaft metallic silver, and it remedied the problem. Tech support at SkyTrak was helpful when I asked them about the Lag Shot issue.

Great review! Why not compare skytrak vs mevo and skytrak vs trackman simultaneously? Probably not a big deal for Matt since his swing is consistent . I’ve had almost 0 missed shots on skytrak since I started putting the ball on the red dot for higher lofted shots and the red dot an inch or 2 in front of ball for driver . Every shot the ball logo has to face the skytrak . Mevo probably easier - just position ball on golf mat and swing away
@tgigolf6713

I think it would be beneficial to discuss the "misread" or even lack of read potential on both units. I had the SkyTrak and recently upgraded to the GC3 because at higher swing/ball speeds I was having a lot of non-reads. The SkyTrak is also very tough to capture some shots because of the laser dot ball placemeny system. I noticed on wedges I had to play the ball a little forward of the dot, and driver was almost an inch behind to get consistent reads. I personally like the photometric systems more than radar, which is why I went Foresight, but I would think the Mevo is much more consistent in capturing every shot which is the whole reason of getting a launch monitor.

Interesting. I have a Mevo+ and it has worked pretty well for even small 10-20ft chip shots in E6 (missing maybe 1 in 10). One difference is the setup angle of 12 deg for E6 instead of 18deg for the FS software, which I believe is critical for tracking chips and putts. I don’t have a mat for putting so I can’t speak to that yet.

I've been using a Skytrak for over a year and just picked up a Mevo+ in anticipation of the Pro release. I have a makeshift hitting bay in my garage and I'm at the minimum recommended distances for the Mevo+. As a result, the ball flight isn't as accurate as the Skytrak (based on the numbers I see on the simulator compared to the actual yardage/ball flight I see when I play a round). I can, and have, run both monitors simultaneously, so I can do a direct comparison between them. The software for the Skytrak isn't as robust as I'd like. Sometimes it locks up when you're trying to retrieve data. Sometimes it's finicky when you are trying to connect to it. Getting it to run in "Network" mode requires dancing between Wi-Fi devices which can be frustrating. Once it's set in Network mode it's pretty stable... until it's not. I've tried running it off a PC, an Android device and an iPad. I prefer the iPad. The Challenges are really more of a social tool. The Game Improvement tools are cool. I like to use the Practice session with the target set to greens and in random distance mode. I just wish that one of the target greens was shaped like a target that you could adjust the size. The Mevo+ is frustrating to set up because you have to pair it to your device every time you use it. I wish it had something in the software that would remember the pairing. Plus, it will timeout if it sits idle too long. The default setting is pretty short, so you can miss a swing because it turned off the radar while you were setting up your shot. You can change the timeout timing, but it would nicer if there was an audio or visual warning that the device was about to timeout. However, the reason that it will turn off the radar is because the battery isn't very big, especially compared to the Skytrak. You get club data from the Mevo+ that you don't get from the Skytrak. That's why I got it. With the Skytrak, you can assume club path from the ball flight, but the Mevo+ will tell you angle of attack. I want the Pro so I can also get face angle. The Mevo+ game improvement skills tests are fun. I was failing miserably until I realized that it was looking for carry distance instead of total distance. Since I only use them indoors, I can't comment on outdoor use, but I would feel really self-conscious about using the Mevo+ outdoor. Since the Skytrak would sit in front of me, inside the hitting area, I wouldn't worry about it getting it others' way. The Mevo+ would be sitting way outside of my peripheral vision and possibly in the path of other range users. Someone could grab it and disappear with it if I were distracted long enough. I have not paid for the 3rd party golf simulations that let you play rounds at famous courses around the world. I have tried to play the "free" simulations that come with the devices and can't get them to recognize the launch monitors. The Skytrak worked for a few "rounds" but then it stopped. I would be seriously annoyed if I paid for a subscription and the interface was finicky. That's my $.02.

I have both units and I agree with most of what you said, but there are two glaring issues with the skytrak that have always bugged me. 1) Skytrak will give really misleading ball flight data if you don’t aim it correctly and make sure each shot is aimed parallel to the unit, and make sure the unit is level and at the same height or flat on the hitting surface. 2) Skytrak is much slower than the Flightscope, it takes about 5 seconds before the software shows the shot and data whereas the Flightscope is almost instantaneous… it’s only a little annoying when your playing on simulator software. Pros for Skytrak are much longer battery life almost double! Less likely to get kicked or someone standing in front of it while it’s measuring. Pros for Flightscope much more robust data and you can upgrade for $1000 to get full club data and some more ball data. More portable and the app is easier to use and is free so anyone can connect to it via iPhone/iPad of their own.

Having had the SkyTrak for a little over a year, we spent more time on tech support trying to get it to read my shots accurately than actually playing golf. I've tried everything from lighting/ball position/better backdrops/ cleaner well-marked golf balls. The misreads were way too frequent, it just wouldn't pick up the shot every 4 to 5 balls. Also, I've found the distance was a decent bit short. For myself, I couldn't get Driver to go over 230 yards carry where normally I'm around 270-280. From what I've found through all the troubleshooting people with higher clubhead speeds tend to have more misreads so if you are a long hitter or have a higher clubhead speed I'd be cautious with getting skytrak. Even my short Irons were 20 yards short which is incredibly frustrating when you're playing on a sim like TGC 2019. When using the range the distances don't matter as much, I believe the flight paths were pretty accurate for what I felt. Overall my whole family was pretty disappointed with SkyTrak not sure if we had a bad unit but we are looking to get the Mevo+ instead hoping it will be more consistent and accurate.

@ScoobyDooski

@@akchoirboy678 As far as accuracy goes, I took the Mevo+ to a local range where they had shot tracers and tracking already there. The Mevo was giving almost identical readings to the range's system for every club in the bag. I think the variance was only a yard or two if any, even with driver. Ball flights looked identical on both software as well. We are still setting up our indoor range so haven't had much testing there but am really pleased with the mevo+ on the outdoor range testing. On the few I"ve hit indoors its looking pretty solid overall but again haven't done much testing on it in the indoor setting. Side note as well, there has yet to be a single misread on the mevo. The skytrak we had would not even register a shot was made frequently. The mevo has picked up every single shot and we've yet to see funky reading either.

Great review. I tried a bunch of sub 2k units before settling on the Mevo+. I did not, however, try the SkyTrak….I’ve had my Mevo+ about 6 months now. It has the potential to be a better unit than the SkyTrak, BUT, you need space. I have enough space to use the short indoor setup (8 foot to the unit, 8 foot minimum to a net)…it works well for everything but woods…and I’m an average driver swinger at 95-98mph. You need much more distance with higher swing speeds to get more accurate data then…I don’t have that…The Mevo+ does provide a ton more data, but I’m not exactly sold that it’s very accurate (e.g., AoA and spin seem way off even with RCT balls - though RCT ball software hasn’t been released yet as of Dec 15, 2022, but Titleist has posted RCT balls work with Mevo+. So waiting for that update), which irks my OCD…so, I may wind up getting rid of it and going with SkyTrak for the space reason, and even though the data is more limited, it seems to be accurate for what it provides.

First, I am a 1.4 handicap and play 40+ rounds a year. I know my numbers. I have had the SkyTrak for well over a year now and use it 5-7 days a week. I have noticed that although I do get pretty good numbers S-5 iron and a little short with the 4 and 3 irons, I do see serious issues with very short readings and high spin rates (Hybrid, 3W and Driver). On the course I easily average 260-270y carry and depending on the fairways 270-300y total. On SkyTrak I rarely get >240 yrds total. Since I have almost 11ft ceilings, I am certain it is not an "indoor" swing. There is a base issue that SkyTrak simply needs to be improved for faster swing speeds!

I had an Optishot2 to start with before going to the Mevo+. The Optishot was a good starter but in 9 months I had to send it back twice for repairs. The infrared lights get damaged from the jolts from the club. I even purchased the JagmanJoe turf top (thicker) and had it on from day one, but still had problems. I am very happy with the Mevo+ and there is an upgrade coming after the PGA show to what they call "fusion tracking". It integrates the radar with the already installed camera to track the ball flight even better. They will also be introducing the "pro package" with the fusion tracking to give more/better data tracking that will be similar to Trackman data. But be aware the fusion tracking will be a free download to the software but the pro package will be a one time extra cost to get the better data. Hope this helps.

I've been extremely happy with the SkyTrak. It's set up in a 12' by 15' room and I wouldn't have had the required space for the Mevo. Also, we have only right-handers in the house so no need to flip it around. We got the TGC software which is a bit expensive but does have literally thousands of courses. Honestly, I mostly use my simulator for swing practice and improvement, so I mostly use the SkyTrak software. My 16 year old son and his friends love playing courses on the TGC, though, and when golf buddies come over it's Pebble Beach time 😀. I would say the most important addition is the best hitting mat you can get. I got a Fiberbuilt mat which was around $800 but well worth it. Saves impact on your arms and wrists and allows you to take an after-the-ball divot without fear of pain. Oh, and DEFINITELY get the protective metal case for the SkyTrak. I have had many balls, and even clubs (teenagers 😳), bounce off of it and shudder to imagine them hitting the bare unit. Best of luck. My game has impoved tremendously being able to hit balls on a daily basis.

The drill I do is to place a headcover or use a tee just outside the ball to make sure I do not hit it. The headcover seems to get in the way of the sky trak and cause It to not read well. If the unit was able to be placed behind me It would work much better. I ended up using the driving range tee for my irons as my tool and it works great. Great video. I had a Skytrack but moved onto a GC2. GC2 is more accurate and more reliable .I.e no missed shots. You did not mention the need to place the ball on the red lazer dot with Skytrack which is impossible to do outdoors and a fiddle indoors.

For 15k the GC2 better be more accurate and more reliable since it's about 30 times more expensive.

GC2 is around 3500USD on the used market. No reason to buy a new one with GC3 out since any club parameters it doesn't provide can be gotten with GCQ for roughly the same amount as GC2+HMT.

I've had a SkyTrak for about a year now and really enjoy it. I'm having a bit of difficulty with it picking up 9i-wedges in terms of carry distance. Most everything else it picks up great. Seems that the higher lofted clubs have about a 10 yd shortage on it. I'm going to play with the settings to see if I can figure it out. Great review. Would love to see the numbers compared side by side between TM, SK and Mevo.

I have SkyTrak, and I’d say with irons and wedges it is spot on for the most part with any top tier device. However, I find once you get your club head speed over 105MPH it tends to struggle and you got some wonky side spin reads that you know aren’t accurate. I tend to use it for irons and wedge practice. 👍🏻

I love my skytrak. I’ve had it for a year, and had no issues. That said, there are rumors that they’ll support TGC2019 on the new GC4. That will change the game in home LM’s. Let’s be real, most people are going to use their LM with the sim software most often.

Great review, one thing I noticed that contradicted the set up manual from flightscope. The unit not only needs to be the same height as the hitting area, but also the space in between them is to be at the same height. Not sure if this would change any of the number to be more accurate however.

I usually run my mevo+ on the ground and hit off a Matt that is about 1” thick without issue. There is a setting for height of the surface you hit from, and mine is kept at 1”. That aside, I have had issues setting it up in outdoor environments where the ground is not fairly level. In some cases, it was unusable due to uneven terrain, like when camping on the side of a lake😂

I have a skytrak coming Monday. I was more concerned about space and worried about interference as I’ll be set up in a garage with an A/C unit right next to the hitting area. It’s also tried and true and I like the look of the interface better. Hopefully I’m not kicking myself a couple months down the road.

I looked at both of these and ended up going with the new Foresight GC3. Yeah it was pricey but I wanted the accurate data the camera system provides. The analysis software is real good too and being able to practice and get the data in my house over the winter months is awesome. Plus you get 10 course you can play indoors too - and it is portable and can work outside on the range. Yeah I had to sell a kidney, but hey I have two and am 65 years old so....

Hi Alan. Do you not miss the face angle, lie/loft data and the putting analysis that the GC3 is missing?
@Alan_Edwards
2 жыл бұрын
@@rufussthoo4083 The putting data not so much, but yes I do miss not having the additional face angle information - especially the club impact point before or after the ball. Foresight has a trade up program where they give you a pretty decent prorated amount for the GC3. I plan to take advantage of that this summer. It is a pricey unit and not for everyone for sure. But it does produce data you can rely on.

I bought a used SkyTrak v1 for under $1000. I went with this because I am limited on space and do not like having the LM 7-8' behind the ball. I only use it for the driving range, so not subscription needed at all.

I love my Skytrak. My buddy tried the Mevo+ for indoor and it was not very good. He set it up in his garage, but there just wasn't enough room to get accurate readings. So, as you said, if you have a normal size room, then Skytrak is simply better. The problem he had with it outdoors is that, unless you have your own driving range, he could only use it with range balls, which gave horrible readings - not because of the Mevo+ but because of the awful range balls. He switched to Skytrak and hasn't looked back. You need a really big room if you are going to use Mevo+ indoors, not to mention having to put those stupid metallic stickers on every ball you hit...you don't need stickers for Skytrak.

@@airselectricalcontractors842 Yes it does. I get too much spin from say Srixon Z-Stars or Taylormade TP5 balls. But if I go with say a Titleist AVX or Srixon Q-Star tour then the spin is a little lower and I can get more consistent distance on my irons.
