@@Debbie-e2e dude i have an alesis sr18 unit and programming anything that's not a basic straight 4/4 beat is insanely time consuming. adding fills to every beat while also making sure the drum machine is in time with your riffs is very irritating as well because u often end up going back and reprogramming stuff to be longer or shorter constantly. i guess it makes sense why most mortician songs are so short and simple lol

I'm kinda biased (being grind freak), but grindcore and grind-adjacent styles of extreme music have this hardcore punk power chords and faster almost whirlwind sounding riffs that just hit different, it's a great flow, like chaotic waterfall or flood. Slam has much more breaks and is all good and well, but despite sounding extremely heavy, doesn't do it for me in terms of flow and sense of never-ending overflow.
@phildaly3561
9 ай бұрын
@@iachtulhu1420 Completely get that - the sense that things are only just about in control and could come undone at any point is definitely part of it. Slam just feels too precise and contrived in that regard for me.
@iachtulhu1420
9 ай бұрын
@@phildaly3561 Yeah, this is my feeling from some of the brutal death sounding bands also... Take let's say last Suffocation album. Not that's it bad as such, but it lacks dynamism and flow. Take new Rotten Sound - nothing groundbreaking, all is known, but there's just more flow, more aggression and more genuine emotion to it, I think, even for such a sometimes limited genre. Slam is hit or miss for me and I grew up on Devourment and proto-slamming bands like Suffocation and Dying Fetus, that's says a lot. Today's slam is too polished, to safe even thought it presents itself as menacing. Not impressed with lowest possible tuning as such, yeah, it's cool and all, but sometimes I lack the capacity to listen to entire slam album without pausing and losing interest. Maybe I've so much adjusted myself to hardcore punk/crust and grindcore shortness and directness of songs that my attention span shrinked, I dunno. In early 2000s I was obsessed with slam and brutal death, now... it's hit or miss.
