Very nice table. I love the design. Simple and straight forward. I gave my cousin and her husband two teak Adirondack Chairs for a wedding gift almost 18 years ago and they finally gave out last summer. I'm making new ones for this summer and I think I will make this table to go with them. Nice job!

What an awesome looking table! That finish is superb for a nice natural look. Can't believe you only had the top stick... that was lucky. I keep a few sanded down dowels on hand for dry fits after a huge debacle that shall never be spoken of again LOL

lol now I want to hear all about it! I guess cedar is more forgiving on the dowels. But good tip to sand those dowels as many went to my reject pile being too tight.

Jessem doweling jig, Canadian made. I’ve been using one to, lining it up to the joining piece is no problem, alignment is always bang on. Slower to set up then say the Festool domino, but compared $200 to $1600, my time is free. I should have bought the master set, all 3 dowel sizes, ¼, ⅜, and ½ . I’ll be purchasing the ¼ " dowel now too.

Great result. I keep saying I'm going to make some dowelling jigs but still haven't got one of those round tuits. Always impressed with the space you guys have and dream about having the mitre saw set up you made. If i made one of those tables for the UK it would need to be a cupboard as well plus fold out into a bed or something welcome to living in shoe boxes. Thanks for sharing

Interesting point about the Rockler jig. I bought one a few weeks ago but have not had a chance to use it yet. I tried to make one but I couldn't get the holes drilled accurately enough in two separate attempts, that's why I bought the Rockler jig. I will certainly remember your two tips, 1. don't let it hit the floor and 2. use one hole for accuracy.
@DIYMontreal

That should definitely help. But too bad that the tool isn't accurate in the first place :-(

I've been looking at a jig similar to the Milescraft, only difference is that it's slimmer and maybe more accommodating to narrower pieces. The accuracy you got seemed to be great! Definitely considering the Milescraft type of jig more now. Thanks! The other jig I'm considering is a rail with holes, three way stops and a movable guide bushing. It also works as a shelf pin jig, ruler and straight edge. Getting ahead of myself here but anyway, great video! Subbed 🙂

Great job! Very well done and explained. Thanks for sharing. I like working with dowels. I only use very simple metal center points for aligning. But I often have the problem that the hole and the dowel don't match in diameter. Either the hole is to large or on the smaller side. In that case dry-fit is a big problem because i can't take the dowel out anymore. Do you have a remedy for that?
@DIYMontreal
5 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, pliers? Lol that's what I did when mine got stuck (had to replace the dowel) but cedar is pretty soft which makes it easier.
@hansdegroot8549
5 жыл бұрын
@@DIYMontreal I did the pliers method a few times, years ago. That was not really a success. Sometimes the dowels broke. Some people use "undersized" dowels for the dry fitting but in fact that is only pushing the problem forward. I've never worked with cedar. It's not commonly available here. I mostly use pine, sometimes beech.

@DIYMontreal
5 жыл бұрын
I can relate. I was totally frustrated with the Rockler jig at first. The dowel joints din't line up, and it dropped and cracked on the first use so that really sucked. But after a few tests I realised that using one of the holes only gave a pretty decent result. The JointPro jig is really well made and great for panels, but not so much for small pieces. I'll keep looking for the perfect jig I guess! The Sawstop is a dream! Love the accuracy of a well made cabinet saw and the safety is priceless to me. No regrets and I highly recommend.

Great video! I have a DIY doweling jig on my to-do list :D And I have just recieved the steel pipes for it. Too bad the rockler jig was inaccurate. Have you tried 2 sided jigs? They are supposed to be more forgiving. Not that I know - yet :D You have yourself a new sub! And GL on your way to 50k subs. With this video quality you will be there in no time. If you have the inclination, stop by my tiny channel and show some support. Cheers from Norway.
