Weather tech makes custom fitted shades. I just bought to convert for inside sleeping. Almost black out the entire inside. There’s also a black side to them so you won’t be able to tell what you’re doing in there.

This is perfect, I was actually trying to figure out whether I want to sleep in the bed or the back cab of my F150 next month, when I head out to Nat. Forest land. With me being 5'9" I decided that I'm definitely going to do the same setup as you. May I ask where you ordered your mattress from?

thanks for watching. I bought the mattress on Amazon it is the "Olee Sleep Tri-Folding Memory Foam Topper, 4'' H" and is now priced at $99. It isn't super thick but it worked for me. I had to shorten it to fit cross-wise in the truck. Good luck.

Great idea! Cruise along and stop to see what you can see. Then bug out on the road for another adventure. Probably a couple weeks or more if you work in a hotel for a shower once in a while. You have the whole back of the truck for other gear too. Im going to pre load the truck and when my wife goes to work, zoom! lol She won’t even know im gone until she gets home from work!

wow this was the idea i was looking for, my issue is me and my girlfriend want to go. but i can do this just have to raise it to the height of the center console and do those extension pieces on driver and passenger side. she is 5ft
@airstreamwanderings3683
3 жыл бұрын
It will work great if she is 5 feet tall. The big question is how tall you are? I'm 6' and need to sleep on a diagonal so if you are a big guy it could be a tight fit for both of you. I would also think about the mattress and how you store the extra pieces when your seats are in their normal position. Good luck.

To anyone considering stealth camping; The hardest part of this is …FINDING A GOOD PARKING SPOT. You can’t park near where people live. They will call the cops on ya. Or flatten your tires. You want a spot where you won’t get hassled, or HIT by a drunk driver. Fear of getting hit by another car , made me want to sleep with my head on the passenger side… so if a car hit me, it would be on the street side of a parking spot, drivers side. Another key is … park well after dark, then wake up and move on EARLY. Most people don’t walk around at night. So if you roll in late, sleep and then leave early , you will avoid most hassles. Carry as little weight as possible. Imagine you are Mad Max, and gas conservation is a concern.

Yes, good point and it is getting more difficult. I know there are a number of videos about where to park but would get nervous in a lot of areas. Good luck.

That's an interesting question. I really don't know what is behind the door panels but a body shop could tell you. I suppose you would pick up an inch or two. I'm 6' and it worked ok.

I’m almost finished with my build. I used 3/4” plywood and made the legs the same as yours. I have been searching for a mattress in 25” wide like yours. Can you share the mattress you have? Is yours 4” or 6”? Thanks for your helpful advice!

Awesome Design! Do you have the dimensions for your build? Planning on building one just like yours this weekend!
@airstreamwanderings3683
2 жыл бұрын
Sorry I don't have the dimensions. I measured the back and had to adjust it a couple of times to make it fit. The legs are a little bit taller than a plastic 5 gallon bucket. I had to move the legs around a couple of times to get the maximum space. As I recall I tapered the ends of some of the legs because the floor was uneven. Good luck.

I was thinking about your question. First I cut the plywood to the same width as the mattress which was 25". I then roughly cut it to length making sure it wasn't too short. I scribed one end at a time to fit the door. I suggest not making it fit so tight that it scratches the door. The little door behind the passenger seat rests on a bucket. To make the legs I first screwed two 2x4s together and then just connected them to the plywood from the top with a couple of screws. After the video I moved the legs as wide apart as I could for better access. In my truck that meant that the rear legs are a different length and the ends are tapered to fit the floor. This video gives another tour of the truck and shows the legs better. kzitem.info/news/bejne/pbBrnJp_qoWqa4o Good luck.
