Lol, your daughter throwing a few oldschool vogues in back at 3:15. Strike a pose, there's nothing to it! I like the leisurely vibe that staying at the hut provides. That was definitely a full house of overnighters. That is an appropriate reaction to the vista of the northern Presidentials. A favorite remedy for sore dogs is to have a sit and soak em in those cool mountain streams for 5-10 minutes. Its such a recharge. Pleasant video, Seth. Looks like you have a great relationship with your kid.

Yeah, the hut was packed. Hadn't been to Lakes in a long time and forgot how busy it is. Definitely not my favorite hut. I prefer the quieter ones like Carter or Zealand. I offered Ezri a river soak afterwards but she was bushed, done and in veg mode. Not interested at all!

The high huts of the Whites are not cheap but they serve family style dinner/breakfast and they are a fun way to stay up high. Good for acclimating people to backpacking without making 'em rough it. This one was a little hectic for our tastes but there are definitely quieter times of the year to hit them. Some stay open in the off-season and they are a much chiller place (literally and figuratively).

Yeah we picked a busy weekend at a busy hut. A little too crowded for us and there was a large drunk group which was annoying. Not our favorite hut. Probably always a madness even with the best of groups. I suppose all the huts can be like that on a bad night. Actually I'm hoping to get back into off-season hut time - some of the huts can be stayed at during the winter. You need to have cold weather gear and bring your own food but you get to use the badass stove in the kitchen! Makes for a fun time.

Yeah a few too many people for our tastes. It's the largest hut and situated at one of the most popular hiking points so it's not a place for solitude. Normally I'm hiking solo and early to avoid people but that's the price you pay to stay at the hut. The morning was quiet before breakfast at least!

I must have just missed you guys at Lake of the Clouds hut - I stopped by for lunch on the 21st, coming up from the Dry River. I didn't remember until I saw your video that Ammonoosuc was the trail I first took up to Washington as a kid. This was good Seth 👍 Loved the cog ⚙️ wheel train 🚂 we have one on Mt Snowdon in Wales half the hight you have there on Washington though. excellent watch as you both moved up through the trees to the dwarf pines and the the barren tops (looks more familiar to us brits 😀) Excellent mountain hut too! Notices big bowls of soup /porage being passed around (count me in on that 👍😊) Nice to see the red squirrel 🐿 (I didn’t know you guy’s had them ) just the gray species? Epic climb well done Ezri and you both 😊🙏🏼🙌🏔(liked the Kilt)John who I hike with from time to time wears one great in the wet and well ventilated too! All the very best Simon 😊🙏🏼🏔

Haha, no bar I'm afraid. The bunkrooms ranged from sleeping 4 to 15. Thankfully we were in a smaller room. They serve meals family style and it's a fun experience although I will say this is the biggest of the White Mountain huts and was too noisy for our tastes. There were about 15 bros who toted up bags of wine and they were getting obnoxious at dinner. Full service season at the huts is ending soon but several stay open in the off-season and allow you to bring your own food and use their kitchen. It's a pretty cool experience and usually much more laid-back!

About 10.5 miles and 4500' elevation gain including Mt. Monroe. The Jewell Trail definitely has incredible views on the way down - but the first mile features lots of rocks which wore us out. We weren't going fast but time on feet is time on feet. We were happy when we finally reached the cog station. Still, couldn't ask for better weather for two days above treeline.

Yes some of the slopes of Washington are very reminiscent of the Highlands. Currently using the Hero 10 and I’ve been very happy with it. Very little glitching.
