Great job guys! I’m in my mid-fifties and still play the trumpet a fair amount. This took me back to high school-- we played this exact arrangement for all four years. I still have it memorized after all these years. Great job on the horse whinny at the end, too! You made me grin from ear to ear.

@@motifity3416 it appears the guy doing the whinny is partially depressing/feathering the 3rd valve. I think when I did it, I halfway depressed all three valves and then feathered them

For how old this concert band arrangement is, I'm surprised how common it is. In my band we use the originals from the mids 50s. They are full of notation from many generations of player and have many holes, but the music is readable enough. Amazing performance the both of you and the bells behind you.

Yes is like a Classic tbh, even for me being a HS Grad of ‘21. I played this for 4 years straight throughout High School Band loved it, very Worth learning & playing over again. But I still play it on my Alto Sax til this day as a Fun Christmas Song whenever. But so True.

In all my years playing this, I had no idea the trumpets actually take a backseat in so much of this piece. Trumpets are usually the foreground of things! Of course the trumpet really gets to shine at the end with the horse. One time in a band, we had the entire trumpet section do the horse sound. I think it was great.

In my band the low brass dominates the band, the trombones dominate the band, I dominate the trombones! Im a trombone player with massive lungs and good sound, but damn some of the underclassmen are good af ngl. If they see this, i just wonna say you guys are good af at what you do

I love this because it shows people the different parts bands play. It's not all the melody. Sometimes it's harmony, sometimes it's something completely different. (I was a bass clarinet player in high school.)

I know what you mean. I used to play bass in my school orchestra. The first violin section was completely opposite of me, so I heard pretty much everything better than the melody. As a result, watching the videos my parents took of concerts was a unique experience.

That's a rather far above average performance for a high school. I had to laugh at counting a number of measures and then playing one note. I know what that's like. It’s just the bass trombones that play that part, it is the hardest part in the score for us by far so the other bass trombonist in my band (I am the first) skipped out and I had to play it. It’s a shame!

back when i was in high school, it was a tradition to ALWAYS play Sleigh Ride in our Winter concert!! y’all did so good! i don’t think our trumpet players did the reindeer sound before but it added a cherry on top!
