I remember playing this on the Game Boy Advance. The game was so dark I couldn't really find the clues that I needed and gave up after playing for an hour. It looks like playing it on the computer would've been a lot better.

Love this analysis! I also thought the premise should have included more than just "mysterious accidents" to draw in the gamer. It's not very compelling, in my opinion, and we needed more, like maybe mention of reports of hauntings around the house by workers. Edit: Also, I'm pretty sure they do have a haunting in the parlor where the curtains move. I can't be positive, but I could almost swear that I have a memory of this happening the last time I played the game. Edit again: I agree that Message in a Haunted Mansion deserves a low B. It's still a good game, but you can't deny that it has some major weak points, namely the characters and the culprit confrontation/reveal. Again, still good, though!

You are correct, there is a ghost event where the curtains flutter! I discovered that after recording 🤣

If I reviewed this game, I think my review would come out pretty similar to yours! MHM is also a game I didn't play until adulthood, so not having any nostalgia plus seeing how much better developed later games were makes the shortcomings stand out more.

Exactly!! I think the Nostalgia Effect is a huge factor with the older games
