Kyle Toth awesome! I drive for a living and I can listen to Spotify all day without it using my data. So then I could listen to your podcasts on the road! You are the person who got me into turning and I absolutely love it and thank you for introducing me to this amazing hobby. Keep up the good work! If you have spare time (which I’m sure you don’t) could you maybe make a video on how you made your miter sled for making segments? I inherited an older table saw but it’s not the best. Cheers bud!

How do you figure out what size pieces to cut to make the rings ?

I think if the ends of the slice where more pointed rather than curved it would look better. But that's just me.

I was thinking the same thing. If it started at points, and flared in the middle, I think it would look fantastic. But I can't think of how to do that short of making a vase and cutting it.

Kyle, when you mount each disc on the lathe and bring up the tail stock to act as a clamp, typically how long do you let it set for before adding more rings? Cheers from Nova Scotia 🇨🇦 Mark
@WoodByToth
4 жыл бұрын
Just a few minutes, then I add a ring. The clamping pressure is only removed for a few seconds. As long as everything is flat it works out well

Isnt it scary that the tool would go into the vase through the cap? Or is that impossible thanks to the speed?

I really like it, I think I'd like it better with the corners/edges of the slice being tapered and perhaps coming to a sharper point if possible. Just my $0.02, I'm not even sure it'd be possible to do.

@sapelesteve

Nicely done as always Kyle! BTW, what is the reason for the gap in the vase? Other than looks of course. I would suggest using a small rotary tool to get to that line rather than using a file. Anyway, so glad to see Todd in the video this time around............ 👍👍🐶🐶👍👍

It was. I started with the dremel and a sanding tool but it burnt the wood, must have been the end grain.
