Brilliant! Here's a "simplifier" I came up with a while back, and being a fellow Fatwood enthusiast, you may like this. Rather than scrape a pile of dust, or cut feathers, I gently pound the end of a strip of Fatwood between two smooth rocks and hit the pulverized end with some Fero sparks. Instant lighter match!

Well that is a new one on me, I've used my silky saw before and found it to produce great sparks but the slide method is new to me. Seems to work very well and I would think it would be better for the saw. Love those feather sticks. I'm always glad to see a new video from NWPrimate.

Brilliant! That I never thought to try that before. Had to try immediately after seeing this. Works great! I'm a big fan of practicing bowdrill so almost never carry a steel striker. I always do carry a Silky though so good to know a striker is always at hand. Used my knifes back a few times but knicks it up pretty bad so stopped doing that. Thanks for the tip!

Most excellent as always Brother... That Silky just rains the sparks. Makes me think it is a much softer carbon compound than most knives. Probably to lend to the flexibility of the saw blade. either way, showers of lava for sure! TFS!!

That method should work with any of the other folding saw I think-? I've got to try it with my folding saws. If it works I'll be able to count it as another source of carbon steel... thank you for sharing. P. S. the old carbon steel honing steels throw many sparks when rubbed with a sharp flint.

That’s a slick demonstration. However having seen your videos I know that you can make fire with a rubber band and piece of asbestos. I don’t like beating up on expensive hardware so this seems a great alternative.

Then my saw will rust. Lol............. but thanx for the tip. If I have to I know I can. Have you tried this on the large rectangle steel you have? Would sure cut down on dinks and grooves in the middle if it works. This technique can be used on bamboo in the same way same technique.
