Today we make some rolling hardware for another set of sliding barn doors out of a combination of old wheels with a bit of history and some salvaged pipe hangers from a jobsite many years ago. So there's a little metal lathe work with a Jet lathe, a little welding with a Snap-On welder AND a little milling on an old Bridgeport. A quick and simple job to get done as long as you have a little patience. Yes, you can just order a sliding door hardware kit from Amazon, but what fun is that when you can make a heavier set up with some salvaged materials.
The old furniture company closed up probably 80 years ago or more and my grandfather managed to salvage a lot of pattern making tools at that time. He got a huge bandsaw for the blacksmith shop and a patternmakers lathe that topped 15' in overall length and rested for the next 50 years in the old well house on the farm. There were large carts and dollies for the docks and smallerr machines for production that rolled on these little wheels. My Much Older Brother has had these wheels in his possession since he was a little boy in the 1940's. #slidingdoors, #diy, #salvagematerials
