I have travelled quite a lot in Slovenia and loved being there. I had some amazing experiences. One day I might go to Slovakia. In any case, I understand that the Slavs came from Scythia (Russia) in the past, thousands of years ago so most likely have some common ancestry; but so too do most Indo-Europeans, we just branch off :)

Etymology of Slovakia is a bit complicated. The tribe, that lived here was called "Sloveni", not "Slováci". You can see it also in slovak language, where Slovakia is Slovensko. If were Slovaks all the time, it would be called Slovácko, not Slovensko. Also we call our women "Slovenky".

Also it wasn't necessarily 1000 years of separation, because Slovaks lived in historical Hungary as peasants/serfs, only in last century or two they were Magyarized (forced to speak Magyar). From what I understand, they are quite different from each other. Croatian and Serbian and even Slovene can be understood if you know one of those languages - although Slovene is (I think, correct me if I am wrong) a little more like Russian perhaps. Czech and Slovak are different (a lot!) to Slovene, Croatian, etc. My mother in law speaks Russian and Croatian but she does not understand Czech or Slovak either! :)

Yeah... Slovak and Slovenian language is a little bit similar, but in same cases quite confusing. Example: The word "otrok" has pretty different meaning in both languages. In Slovenia it means kid but in Slovakia it mean slave. This one got a pretty big laugh when I was in Slovenia for the first time. Somewhere there was an information for adults and their kids. So for me, as a slovak person, it wasn't "adults and their kids" but I was reading "adults and their slaves". ;)

Croatian surnames start showing up in my pedigree 4 generations ago, but by then significant intermarriage with Slovak population was already underway and were indistinguishable from other Slovak neighbors.

Imo there is Slavic influence in Austria from 600 AD if not before. Just casual observing, I do see more Germanic nature north of Vienna in Waldviertel. The traditional hats resemble Venice further south in Mostviertel. Must be trade history with ancient relatives to make that last. Sort of gradient in Austria with German influence in north and Slavic influence on NE and South. But feel there is some in Gresten area which is central Austria. May be why Austrians may feel less German with possible connection to South Slav people through common Baltic ancestry. But definitely still connected to Bavarian German dialect and Roman / Celtic culture. Nice to discover Slavic history to explain likes dislikes 💖

Hello Serbian brother I am from Slovakia. I think that we Slovaks and Slovenians have been one nation or one tribe called SLOVENI/ SLOVIENI in history before all slavic tribes have been divided into west Slavs, south Slavs and east Slavs. Historical name for Slováci is Sloveni/ Slovieni, for slovak women Slovenky. Historical name for slovak women has been preserved. I read it in Dictionary of Slovak language and also in some historical books. I think it could be the truth. That would explain us why we both have the same female name for Slovaks and Slovenians: Slovak woman- Slovenka and Slovenian woman is also Slovenka and our both countries are called similar in our own languages: Slovakia- Slovensko/ Slovenská republika; Slovenia- Slovenija/ Republika Slovenija. Our country Slovensko is called in english Slovakia because we can not have the same name as Slovenia because nowadays we are two different slavic brotherly countries. ❤️ :-) Greetings to our brothers and sisters Serbians and Slovenians from Slovakia, from your slavic sister! :-) ❤️ SLÁVA to all slavic nations! ❤️

@Mieroslava: you are 100% correct , because we Sloveni are the first slavic group on the central european territory. Slavi is a name invented by Checks in 19.century. Correct name is Sloveni, which is also a better name as Slavs, which germans translated in slaves. We are not slaves, but Sloveni, and this truth is slowly coming to the surface. I have in the past condemned people who are 'wnb nazis' and I think Slavic people should distance from it considering we have suffered a great deal under the nazi or fascist regime. I consider myself to be rational, that's all. I never hid my political opinion and to summarize it: I am proud of my heritage and culture, I am against the illegal migrantion and LGBT propaganda - does that mean I hate everyone who's not straight white European? No, not at all. I simply think Europe should strive towards increasing birth rates instead of importing people from Arab or African countries who in most cases bring their culture with them thus unsuccessful assimilation is changing our, European culture (Take a look at the West Europe). Anyhow, the purpose of this channel is not political propaganda but simply promoting Slavic countries, music, brotherhood, etc. I do sometimes include some parts like I did in this video that may upset some people, but shouldn't be taken all too serious. I hope this answers your question.

Slavic Affairs thank you for dissuading some of the doubts that I had. It makes me much more comfortable supporting your channel (which I really do enjoy). I’ll be sure to continue supporting your channel in the future!

As a Serb there is one main difference for me. Slovenia recognises Albanian claims to Kosovo, and Slovakia does not. Slovakia is better. Kosovo je Srbija.

Well, good for you, now just get your government to rescind the formal political recognition. In the mean time Slovakia is one up, at least for me.

Slovenians are great people . what are you talking about ? They have always sided with Serbs and respect and like us more then they like Fascist Croats. The people are not responsible for their government. Our government is letting Gay pride marches through Belgrade does this mean we Serbs as people accept this too? Our government wants to Join NATO and shitty EU does this mean us as a Race want to as well;?? Get a grip of reality and your own senses my Brother. Its easy being a Serb inside a western country with a lot if food,Job ,money nice house and nice car. In Serbia people don't give s shit about being bog Serbs because they are barely surviving you stupid kid.
