You are the first one who didn't cringe at the taste of our food, especially traditional food. There is no Slovenian who does not like cheese dumplings.😉😋

It was great to see you chose a range of restaurants and that you could appreciate the hearty foods as well as the more refined meals. I also really enjoyed the detailed description of the flavor/texture of the dishes. Traveling for food? My type of food channel! Instant subscribe.

Thanks for the support Kimberley! I find it's important (and interesting) to try the traditional food and then seeing how far modern restaurants can take it. I'm stoked with the wine scene too, very special vino region of the world!

nice job Jason, I lived in Slovenia for 3 years back in the 90's never had a bad meal not like in Melbourne which is more hit and miss but having said that Melb has come a long way.

Oh it is! As a person who lives near the border with Slovenija, i can tell you that my experience it's very good, due to the country history the more traditional food has been influenced by Italian, Balkan, Austrian and Hungarian,. As Jason Vaughan pointed out the food scene it's still evolving. If you plan to go to Slovenija in Ljubljana, from June to October, every friday they have a food event called "Odprta kuhna" (opened kitchen). You have various food stands coming from various parts of the country. Food ranges from the traditional local food to the international one and even some fusion.

@@JasonVaughan Gibanica is very traditional pastry from north east Slovenia - Prekmurje. And Gibanica isn`t kind of dumpling. And of course you have tried just few of traditional Slovenian dishes. You have to go around Slovenia, because you could find a lot of different taste and also different dialects of Slovene language - about 41 of them.

Liked the variety of food reviewed! A way to really boost your audio production quality would be to convert all the audio recorded from phone to mono and do editing with decent headphones. At the moment the sound mix is quite hard to listen to with headphones, the use of inbuilt stereo mic in the phone causes a lot of out of phase noise, reflections/etc to be picked up and it sounds quite strange and distracting.

Thanks for taking the time to explain, I’m a novice with sound and these are great insights. The audio came from my Sony and now I’ve upgraded to Rode wireless mics. Hopefully that helps.

Thanks Daniel! Great time of the year to visit. The local wines are spectacular. Slovenian wines like the Rdece Gordia (3 red blends), Skerlj Vitovska Orange, MonteMoro Malvasia and Sveti Martin Klarnica were my favourites from the trip. Then of course try the Italian wines just over the border like Radikon, Gravner, Dario Princic. You’ll be in the world’s best orange wine region so take advantage of it! 🍊

When i saw how many timestamps this video has i was worried you were going to eat yourself to death because as a nation of farmers our traditional food is very hardy and filling. Glad to see you enjoyed some high cuisine, even if id prefer to stick to my tried and true plain foods

@@JasonVaughan We probably eat a lot of beef, but I think pork is the most symbolical Slovenian meat. We also have our own pig breed ( kraškopoljski prašič ), which is why we have so many different dried/smoked pork meat. Lamb is popular mostly on the southern region for sure, especially in spring-summer time, but we don't eat as much lamb as our southern neighbours.
