Garbage tier but definitely something I'd bring to war with. With a 3 1/4 MOA, you can still definitely make headshots at 100-200, and center of mass shots at 300 to 400, and obviously accurate enough to keep heads down. Not bad for a gun made in a jungle clearing on a tiny island on the cheap because they can't make M16 rifles for export but they need money.

I don't know if you remember me or not, but I reached out to you like a year to 18 months ago for help identifying the markings on my No4 Mk1 Lee Enfield. I forgot to follow up with you after I finally got to shoot it. Got a hold of some .303 ammo after a while and got to shooting it. It still shoots like a dream. Accuracy is pretty damn good for someone who isn't used to shooting it or it's micrometer sight yet. Can definitely manage 3 to 4 moa pretty well. Leaning mostly toward 4 but that's because of me. Might be my new favorite bolt action. Now I'm just working on cleaning her up. Not gonna refinish it or "restore" it, but I am gonna get her looking a little more cared for. I am still very much appreciative of all the help with identifying the origins of it.

The SAR-21 is a really nice rifle if you ever get a chance to have a go with one. Bit dated because it doesn't have any rails and you can only shoot it right-handed. I think I like it because it has a short LOP and so do I. Trigger pull is fairly heavy but it's very predictable.

If I am not wrong, SAR stood for "Sterling Assault Rifle" but this was later changed to "Singapore Assault Rifle" . It has the same black crackle paint used on the Sterling SMG. Chartered Industries of Singapore manufactured it mainly for export as their licence-built M-16S1 (a copy of the M-16A1) could not be exported without US approval, and this was rarely given when they wanted to arm various genocidal dictatorships and factions in civil wars. It was exported not only to the warring factions in the Former Yugoslavian civil wars (was there a UN arms embargo on that?) but also to Somalia (later turned up being used by Somali pirates), Zaire, DR Congo, Central African Republic, Papua New Guinea, and it was photographed being used by both the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam and Sri Lankan government forces in the Sri Lankan civil war. The Singapore army didn't adopt it on a large scale, preferring to stick to the M-16 for frontline infantry, but it was issued to rear echelon troops in logistics and maintenance units who needed a weapon for defending their depots and dumps and didn't need to do much hiking around with it. Compared to the M-16, the SAR-80 is heavier and also harder to carry around as it has no carrying handle, but it is more accurate, and more reliable - it jams much less as it seems to have more clearances for the moving parts inside the receiver so it copes better with dirt and grime. It was also cheaper than the M-16 and used a stamped steel receiver. Successor weapons manufactured by CIS were the SR-88 and SR-88A which were again sold to various third world countries including the Burmese military junta.
@BlokeontheRange
2 жыл бұрын
Dunno where this accuracy and reliablity claim comes from - accuracy over the irons has been comparable, and the SAR-80's have a reputation in Slovenia for being very fussy about their magazines (I had a mag-related jam at Lynx Brutality). Also, for those with the bolt hold-open still in, if the spring on that isn't strong enough, it bounces up under recoil and locks the bolt back...
@Kelvin_Foo
2 жыл бұрын
@@BlokeontheRange I would second the bit about the SAR-80 being rather fussy with magazines and feeding, the Singaporean Army units issued with the SAR-80 had the old 20 round magazines, and they were often having failure to feed issues IIRC. The reliability bit is probably more to do with the perception that a short stroke gas system is better than a DI type system, and might be easier for a conscript soldier to learn how to clean after 3 hours of technical handling instruction.
@TangBengYong
2 жыл бұрын
@@BlokeontheRange I don't know the reasons for it, but my army mates in the logistics support unit who went for their range programme with the SAR-80 reported it to me. At the same time at the range there was a combat unit using M-16s and they heard a lot more shouting of "I.A I.A" (Immediate Action) from them during the shooting, and the M-16 armed unit were less accurate than my mates with their SAR-80s. Maybe the slightly heavier SAR-80 is easier to hold steady when you are slightly out of breath after running down to the shooting position? I don't know.

Really neat video! Great to see how this obscure rifle performs at 300m. My biggest gripe with this rifle for me is it ripped a chunk of my finger skin off when I put my hand too far into the charging handle while pulling it back. Other than that, I agree it handles handles nicely. Can't speak for shooting yet though since I havent shot mine. Also kinda random but the SAR 80 charging handle roughly works in the AR180 in a pinch, but I wouldn't recommend it lol.

It always makes me laugh when anti-gun people in the US try and explain away Switzerland because it has "strict" gun laws. So basically, if it's a handgun or a semi-auto long gun, you go to the town hall, pay 50 francs and they check up on you and either you go back and get the purchase permit or they mail it to you. That's it. And you have to be at least 18 to get it. To buy regular sporting long guns you basically just need ID. And Swiss bureaucracy is super efficient. I remember applying for an export licence from SECO, from the UK, so I mailed it on Monday, and I had the permit on Friday. From Switzerland. I shit you not. To this day I can't believe it. And I didn't even have to pay up front, they sent me a bill for 50CHF.

Why don’t you use a 300Meter zero and just hold under for Everything 25-300 Yards? It would seem easier to me and it would train your mind for one simple hold. Also it’s good for training for the “Boogaloo” I have found through personal experience in combat in Afghanistan when your getting shot at; your brain dumps all the ballistic hold over or under gun nerd theory and it reverts back to training. My muscle memory is and was a center mass hold. At least that was the doctrine I was trained to with the USMC. I’m a gun nerd myself and have been shooting since I was 10 and I was surprised to find that I did that and for every consecutive firefight after that it didn’t get better, actually it got worse. The enemy was ~400+ meters away at times during a “two way range firefight” and I completely forgot to holdover. Luckily I had a 25 meter zero. I have no idea if I made hits but at least I knew my rounds were close. If your not getting shot at and your Adrenaline (sorry I can’t spell I eat crowns for lunch) or whatever other “ full-retard” chemicals get released it’s a little easier to compute range/distance to an enemy combatant ~800 meters +\~ but it’s still really hard under heat/fatigue stress. Just my two cents from a gun nerd troll veteran that needs a life.
