Curating a list of literature based on a destination of travel is genius. I've experienced Eve staring from my overloaded bookshelf for a while now and you gave me the perfect reason to pick up Slow Days and finally dive in.

Read this after coming to the conclusion she was Joan Didion but better. I was not disappointed. And you're exactly right. Her prose is really unique and captivating. Witty, for sure

I can't remember if I said it in this video, but I considered rereading Play It As It Lays for this L.A. List series, but, ultimately, the Didion left me so cold and down I swerved away from it. Very thankful to have discovered the joys of Babitz!

I read these pieces mostly in my car on lunch break from work. When I returned to my desk I felt that energy you feel from spending time with a great friend.

I went with Mike Davis's City of Quartz for my non-fiction/L.A. history book. Thanks for this recommendation though!

Love your videos! I'm always impressed by your video quality. If you don't mind me asking - what camera do you use? Do you use natural light only?
@LeafbyLeaf

Thanks so much! I use a Canon EOS m50 and a softbox light. There are 2 large windows to my left that allow natural light, and I try to shoot videos around 10am if possible.

Hey Chris, what 10 books would you take to a deserted island (excluding survival guides) ? Maybe you can make video about it if you have time?
@LeafbyLeaf
2 жыл бұрын
"Excluding survival guides"--DRATS! In one of my Q&A videos I answered the question for a SINGLE deserted island book, which would be the KJV Bible, no question. Perhaps I will make a video on this one day, but in order to meet your present demands, here goes: 1. KJV Bible 2. Iliad and Odyssey (for grant me this as one choice!) 3. The Divine Comedy (Inferno, if pressed for one work) 4. The Norton Complete Shakespeare (Hamlet, if pressed for one work) 5. Don Quixote 6. Paradise Lost 7. Goethe's Faust 8. Moby-Dick 9. Ulysses 10. In Search of Lost Time To be clear, I would ache for many more books.

She’s a great writer but her claim that there’s no good Mexican food north of Santa Barbara is insane
