It is interesting how songs that were not the content of an album are better than songs that were part of the content of a 100% constituted album. And without a doubt, Slowdive is the best example of this. And we could say "I want this on Spotify" or "I want to hear it in studio album quality," but come on: that scratchy, retro, lo-fi sound is a plus here.

I don't know when this was released but after watching the Pitchfork documentary I can imagine it was part of the demo's that Creation's ditched after their first major album Just for a Day (which was release after their promising debut EP) which got bad reviews and was the start of the overall decline of shoegaze (other genres like grunge started to become more popular). And thus Creation dismissed a lot of Slowdive's demos onwards and put pressure on them which finally led to Souvlaki. Alyway, it's a pity these demos haven't been released officially.

This randomly appeared on my suggested videos and I’ve never heard of this band. My older brother’s name is Richard. He’s a bipolar schizophrenic. It’s been a huge suffering for my family because he refuses to take his meds. He’s been like this for a decade now. But we do our best love him as he is “Richard, I’m cold and out of hope…” Breaks my heart

Wow, I can’t believe I forgot about this song. This was my favorite band in high school, in fact the reunion tour was my first ever concert. I remember begging my dad to let me go. Years later I start listening to them again and find this song. You see just recently my friend passed, and his name was…well you can guess. I thought this song was haunting before, but now the lyrics literally give me chills.

The song is about richard who lies lifeless alongwith other bodies, the singer finds Richard lying facing away thus making it hard to know if he is dead or just asleep 💔 Richard, who's lying by your side? Your love and all the side of the light, Richard, I fall inside your light, Richard, your soul is not your pain. This side of life falls apart, Your life succumbs, sun is right. Richard, your soul is on my heart, Richard, I'm falling out of light. There's a light you hold… it's gone, Richard, your light is on, entirely on your side. Pour out to all, to pick it up around. Richard, I'll hold your light now. Instrumental…. Your light it all sounds so wrong, Richard, I’m lying on the wrong, In life your soul is not your right, Oh Richard, I miss you and your light. I’m loving all the signs I see, Richard, I know it's hard… too poor without you gone, Richard, I and all your friends, you'll see us all again, Richard, I know you left your heart.

The emerging popularity of Grunge in the US and Britpop in the UK really did sour the scene for record companies, didn't it... It's not even that those genres were bad, but record companies were so incensed by money that they threw shoegazing into the limelight without recognizing the good (and profitable *ahem*) music that could come from the scene. If only they gave 'em a little more love...

/watch?v=pz4joc_fc4s "I saw the sun" was an album (maybe even two) of music that they produced before Creation made them scrap it. Along with this song, there are many excellent songs like "Sleep", "I believe", and the eponymous "I saw the sun". I believe there's lots of other demos floating around, and for that you may need to take to the KZitem recommendations ;)

I love Slowdive!. This song in particular has a real late 1960's Donovan esque vibe to it, there was a big retro theme in the 90's as part of the Gen-X grunge movement, I think was in reaction to all the 80's synth and hair bands.

So simple and yet so powerful. Slowdive has always brought on the painful tears. Sometimes we need that though.

Never heard this until today. It's so Mojave 3. I know the main band members/song-writers are the same - but this track really provides the pathway from Slowdive to M3. Thank you!

This song is deeply inserted into me as I used to fall asleep to it for a week when I broke up with my ex, when I look back I see the beauty in that melancholic state which I was in and this song did bury me deeper into it. Such a beautiful song.

Funny. I knew a guy named Richard and was my first and probably last love Damn.. that was 8 years ago, huh? I guess this is what it feels like to dedicate a song to someone when feeling heartbroken. I was really in denial when I was heartbroken all these years. Having an unrequited romantic feelings is nothing new to me but I guess his cut deep no matter how hard I try to forget about it But I guess I can slowly bury that hurt with this song, despite the song having entirely different meaning than my own subjective experience I was too much of a pussy to say goodbye to him but I will listen to this from time to time whenever I think about him so I can let go the hurt using this song

@repulsive Thank you for caring enough to ask. You don't know how much that means to me.. seriously, I mean it. But you're right, I am pretty lonely & not in a good place right now. Just trying to distract myself a lot, sometimes with not so good things. I feel like I've lost myself. I'm just a mess, a horrible mess. Thanks again for asking. You made me feel like someone actually cares haha I know I sound f'ckn pathetic but this is how I feel & I wish it would stop.

It's like the instrumental takes your mind and runs away with it. Takes you to a place that is so familiar, kind of like a ecstacy feeling. Then reality is set again once the singing picks back up, reminding you that you are In the present and no longer the past
