Maybe this would look better on a 645 lens without a speed booster, just a dumb adapter. There is lots of room on a 645 without running out of glass. I like using a 645 45mm on a Sony A7Rii a lot. However, the 210mm is great too.

Is this adapter hard to focus? Are the Blazar or Moment adapters the same? Tito, you have tried them all, is this just a function of the 2x stretch or is it bad glass? Also, I wonder how many desqueeze monitor options there were back when this video was shot. Posted by another reader, " but I keep seeing you mention that there are shaper and better options out there".

Man is it heavy. You need a tripod for sure. I tired the Helios 58mm, but it had serious Vignetting and looked like tunnel vision. Then moved to a 645 80mm lens with a dumb adapter that produced full screen brightness with zero Vignetting. This is on my Sony A7Rii. You for sure need to do some experimenting with it, like they said in the instructions. I might try out my 150mm 645 next. I use the 645 lenses without focal reducers, just a dumb adapter. Works great, but wow, my arm. The locking ring makes total sense to keep the lens and adapter properly in sync.

I heard you mention adjustable M42 adapters. The last time I bought 6 M42 to Sony E adapters I got the adjustable ones. I was thinking "Why are they sending me Allen wrenches here?". Well it all makes sense now. They work great. I wish there was a way to use OM adjustable adapters or at least a mix that would work for Olympus. When I compare this adapter with the lenses on "THE ULTIMATE ANAMORPHIC LENS TEST" there is a massive difference. It could be that the tests use A LOT more light. It could be that those lenses are gigantic and let a lot more light in. They were used for film. I was looking for that kind of image. I don't think this SLR lens is going to mut the custard here. Comments?

No wonder your footage is so soft in focus, you need a large 27" monitor to see enough clarity to work with this lens, as well as others I would suspect.

I'll tell you what I think. The more glass you have to look through, the slower the lens gets. Quality of glass becomes a big issue here. I really don't think the glass in these low end (JUNK) adapters have that quality of glass in them, but they are cheap. Give us something to play around with.

Hello Tito! First I want to thank you for all the videos you have made. I think have watched many of them more than once and decided I need some expert help. I am an independent filmmaker in Albuquerque, NM. I actually noticed you mentioning Jesse Heidenfeld in one of your videos and I have worked with him on bigger sets a few times and have gotten to know him pretty well. I have a project coming up that calls for anamorphic and as I mentioned...I am and "indie" filmmaker so cost is a concern. I recently purchased an URSA Mini Pro as an upgrade from my big URSA. My dad gave me his Nikkor lenses, a few years ago, from his photography days and I also have a set of rokinon cine lenses. I wanted to get your thoughts on my best options for anamorphic adapters. I have considered buying the SLR Magic 2x Anamorphot and Rangefinder but I keep seeing you mention that there are shaper and better options out there. I would appreciate your thoughts from one budget anamorphic experience cinematographer, obviously you, to one with not so much...

Would the 1.33x 50 cause too much vignetting on the Sigma 85mm Art? It has a 86mm thread and although a 67mm step up ring doesn't show in the corners I wonder if the adapter would have terrible vignetting as soon as I attach the adapter.

You said it would work better on APS-C and MFT. Does this mean this adapter is ideal for MTF, a bit less for APS-C and worst for FF? Also, does a sensor size play any role with the how wide you could go or it is not related to the sensor size ( if it is 40mm on FF it is 20mm on MTF) ? Thanks!!!

It works fine on Full Frame. You just have to use the right lens. I found using a 58mm had serious Vignetting, but when I switched to my MAMIYA SEKOR C 80mm f 2.8 Medium Format 645 lens, with a dumb adapter, I have zero Vignetting. This is as they say in the instructions. This lens is 2.5 lbs and even in a Small Rig rail rig it pulled on my smaller taking lenses making them hard to turn the focus ring. This cannot be good for my old vintage lenses.

I prefer the 50 1.33x. I especially do not like the diamond bokeh artefacts on this lens. But there is also a practical matter that I can put 1.33 anamorphic's onto smaller cameras like phones and GoPro and I like the consistency with using 1.33x on larger sensors, especially MFT and Sony APSC. I am finding that The iPhone with Moment anamorphic and SLR Magic on MFT gives me great flexibility. Unfortunately, it looks like SLR Magic is no longer making the 1.33x version and they are going the way of the dinosaurs.

Here is the thing with your review here. You are using Russian lenses. None of them are very sharp. They are not known for that. I have 2 Jupiter 9 lenses here, one is the (1966 version) M39 Silver with Lilac Lens Coating. That is a great portrait lens, but that is it. It is soft. You should have used a FUJINON 55mm f2.2 or a Takumar. At least they are sharp. How can you separate the adapter from the lens? You can't.

I bought it new from B&H last winter in a sale. I buy mostly vintage lenses. They were serious about the glass they used. That was their thing. This doesn't come anywhere near my vintage lenses. I think they jumped on a fad and used whatever glass they could find. I would like to see a video on the types and quality of the glass used in modern lower priced lenses like this. Try buying window glass and you will see there are a lot of types and that is just for windows.

I ran a test at my local camera store. Pretty disappointing... I guess what I'm really looking for is a way to shoot with a 35mm Anamorphic Focal Length, in single focus, with Organic Purple/Magenta/Blue Flares. The SLR Magic Anamorphot 50 x2 was the only thing I could find that was able to avoid any vignetting at 6K on the GH5. Unless, do you know of any other scopes that can take a 35mm with blue flares? My only other thought would be a fabled Kowa 8Z with blue flares, but on my Kowa 8z if I put on the RHCDNA I see vignetting again, so...

Hi Tito, I have also read that the 1.33 does produce weaker anamorphic effects compared to the 2x. Which is why I would think people would enjoy the 2x more, no? why did u not like 2x as much ? i am making a decision about buying one of them to use with my GH4 in the future, so would be great to hear your opinion, thanks!
@lokiodinson4804

Thanks for your reply man! wow, I havent had any first hand experience in trying them myself, but from the few test footage on youtube, I would have thought that the 2x would be at least as good as the 1.33 image wise, while looking "more anamorphic". Could it be the unit you recieved that wasnt quite up to standard? Becasue I have a gh4, I can use the 4:3 anamorphic mode with a 2x to achieve 2.39 ratio, which is convenient. I also prefer the blue in 2x than the 1.33. Which would you recommend?

Thanks man, appreciate it! where did you buy the anamorphot? Because I have just started learning filmmaking, and plan to make some short films as a start. And I am based in the UK, to be honest, I could only buy the anamorphot online, as no stores have them in. And as usual things are just more expensive here in the UK, the 2x would cost 1400 pounds, which is way too much for me. I am prepared to pay for a price that is more reasonable for it (£1000?) I checked on b&h, it indeed is cheaper in the US :( Would you have any suggestions as to the best way to buy it? And do you think the range finder and diopters are necessary? get both? should i get one of them or is the anamorphot fine on its own for filmmaking workflow. Always appreciate it man : ) following your channel for more!
