There is a performance by Sly and the Family Stone on TV, (Not this video) where you can see the drummer in the back ground... he took off the top cymbal of the high hat, tightened the wingnut under the cymbal, put it back on the high hat, and he did this while they band was playing, the drummer kept the beat going with his one hand and his feet. It blew me away when I realized what he just did.

No joke... I thought the same thing first time I heard this... but if you listen, the crowd rushes the hand clap at the breakdown, the drummer falls out of sync with the crowd but maintains meter (this is common w/live concert because of the lack of time alignment to the back of the arena or hall), then his syncopation pattern turns his beat around a bit (intentionally) and when he brings the vocals back in, he crashes on the 2...or, he "rolled through the 1" as the fellow above points out... which along with all the chaos that preceded, gives the effect they dropped a beat, it fooled me at first ....but they actually never broke meter.. ...they are right on!
@tompastian3447
21 күн бұрын
@@abelagosi3449 agree. Where you will hear a mistake is on the Alman Bros. doing "One Way Out" live. At near the end of the drum solo, you can hear that something went wrong. The Alman Bros. had two drummers, and one may have come in at the wrong time, or maybe the bass player did and the drummer had to compensate.

This may be last great televised rendition of this traditional show ending thriller for this band. I WANT TO TAKE YOU HIGHER was typical encore. This performance is DANCE TO THE MEDLEY from Dance To The Music album. Allen and Newmark, the bassist and drummer, respectively, are superbad here. This is the Fresh band with Pat Rizzo the third brass player and Little Sister, lead by Sly's youngest sister, providing vocals. For my taste the abovementioned added zilch to the band's sonics or stage act. Rizzo looks horrible on stage here. Kill the tailor that fashioned his outfit. Rose is the sister who could sing. Why not add Betty Davis and the future Mrs. Stone to the band or grab more brass players from Mandrill or Kool and the Gang? However, as always, gospel, blues and jazz cohere with rock = funk, as demonstrated by this great performance, and Biggie, for good reason, lived for the funk.
