This is my recreation of the Super Mario Advance 2 All Yoshi Coins cutscene in SNES Super Mario World, done on request for LadiesMan217: / @ladiesman217 . It makes use of a framework patch I created to handle cutscenes like this. There are some discrepancies between this and the actual cutscene, but those are either because of hardware differences between SNES/GBA, engine differences between SMW and SMA2, things that would be too obnoxious to recreate, or other reasons.
Here is my patch that allowed me to do this: www.dropbox.com/s/86giwgjd86d...
Notes:
- The sprite tiles disappearing partially during the coin deluge is due to sprite overdraw and is a hardware limitation. The SNES can only display 32 sprite tiles on the same scanline and I had to spawn as many coins as possible to keep the cutscene in sync with the music.
- At most, there are 38 coins on screen using 2 16x16 tiles each (76/128 sprite tiles total). That's far more objects than can be supported by any of SMW's sprite types.
- I did not need the SA-1 patch to pull this off, although this cutscene is compatible with that patch. This footage was recorded on a copy of SMW without that patch applied.
