Listen to the soft calls of Small-billed tinamous - Crypturellus parvirostris.
In the Pantanal there are a lot of birds you can see and hear. It gets quite chaotic at times, especially at dawn and dusk (I'm looking at you chachalacas!). Among all this cacophony some species can go unheard or unnoticed if you aren't paying close attention.
The Small-billed tinamou makes little sounds that can only be heard if you're fairly close, or if you've set up the microphones in the right place. This is not a very bombastic or showy bird. Crypturellus is formed from three Latin or Greek words. kruptos meaning covered or hidden, oura meaning tail, and ellus meaning diminutive. Therefore, Crypturellus means small hidden tail.
