Nothing gets me more excited than a good weather window late autumn to get out on the SIB. Water temperature here in Cornwall can still be in the mid teens meaning an abundance of species feeding up for the long winter ahead.
Launching from a tidal estaury on the south coast of Cornwall I make my way to a patch of rocks with huge sets of swell breaking over the exposed reef despite the eerily settled wind and tide. I utilise the SIBs manoeuvrability and shallow draft to get up close to this exposed reef and start firing my lure of the year - a fiiish crazy paddle tail 150 khaki in and amongst the most turbid patches of white water I can spot. You almost know when and where the bass is going to ambush the lure and sure enough mine was hit more times than I could keep track of. These fish were beautifu; deep bodied and fin perfect with proper dark colouring along the flanks. It's nice to switch up the tactics once a few come to the boat so on went an ima salt skimmer in cotton candy (my second favourite surface lure after the patchinko which I had lost a few days prior). Same method of placing it amongst the perfect ambush points and straight away a better fish nails it proving the benefits of varying the approach. This is the sort of fishing that I just can't get enough of.
