Poor design is causing the waves... the seawall they made with steel pilings is causing the waves to refract back out into the water and amplifying it. If they had originally designed the canal with either a natural shore or used rock piles as the sea break, the irregularities would absorb the waves. When the canal was built 100 years ago they probably didn't intend on a constant motorcade of weekend boaters out there. Was likely built with the very occasional small fishing vessels and barges in mind...nothing else.

I agree BUT if most of these boats would run through at a slower speed, fast enough to keep control but not leaving a large wake behind you, then you don't create the INITIAL WAVES that only get larger with every boat that goes by, while throwing off waves. Those waves are started by boats kicking up a wake from being at half plane. With the jetties being like a wall, the waves bounce back and forth, and with the extra inertia of every boat, those waves can grow and grow, ending up with a mess of dangerous outcomes possible. Yes, Mother Nature has a great hand in the wave making progress BUT it is actually the boaters that create the problem in the first place. Slow down and enjoy your boat instead of trying to kill it!!!😒😳🙏🙏🙏

I'm not familiar with the area but I was wondering what was the major cause of all the waves/wake?? I understand it is a no wake zone in a narrow canel so any wake at all is going to bounce around for awhile in the canel. But if there were no boats present what is the wake like? Is the current so fast that it is creating a white water affect? Seemed like some of the smaller boats had to throttle way up just to gain ground in the swift current.
@lnr12241
Жыл бұрын
@@Vol2169 it's a canal between the bay and the Manasquan inlet. The tide rips thru there. You're not allowed to bring wave runners or jet skis thru it because of how fast the tide is. You fall you die. Anyway because the current is so fast there are always waves. Boats just increase it. It's a no wake zone but you can make a small wake going at a safe speed and you won't get in any trouble. You can see most boats make a wake. State police and coast guard are right there. You have to be going pretty fast before they say anything

Agreed. I have a Bryant bow rider and they are not made for ocean boating. More suited for lakes. The bow of most bowriders (Bryant, Chaparral, Fourwinn, Cobalt, etc) are too narrow and pointy with a deep V and tend to submarine into the next wave. Seems like most of the center console boats (C. Skiff, Boston Whaler, etc.) have a much wider bow that isn't as deep.

Boston Whaler…unsinkable..Yes.. that does not mean ,it is completely safe in turbulent waters. The boat cannot sink. But in waters like this you cannot stay in the boar. The boat can flip upside down and the passengers can drown. I owned a 17 Montauk with 100 hp Merc. I would never , ever take my family out that inlet in that old whaler. In fact my later boats were a 26 SeaRay, a 30 ft and later A36 ft Trojan . I ran the 36 Trojan from LakeGeorge,NY south bay of Champaign to Albemarle Sound, NC.. 800 miles, 8 days and 800 gal. Both Trojans had 13 ft beams and 300hp Crusaders. I would never take any of these great boats out this inlet under most any conditions. Too many idiots out there, convinced they were GOD’s gift to boating and that they were bulletproof. I’ll bet they even do it at night and half drunk. So somebody is going to get killed right there. It will not be MY grandchildren or my wife. If you think I am lying or uninformed, ask your next TowBoat or Police Boat or Coastie.
