I got it to go 30 mph at that point. It is a 24v Caterpillar Forklift motor. That controller was an Alltrax 300 amp 24v in the video. When I upgraded to a Logisystems 700 amp controller I got it to 45 mph, but the range was cut in half. I am on my next project now, and it is a 3 Phase 240V AC system. It will be fully capable of going 85 mph. There is a guy here in our town getting 50 miles per charge and drives on the freeway 70+ mph everyday. Drive for free!

Actually it works great, down or up shifting. Some conversions even leave the clutch, or use auto trans. Most of us build these for fun out of spare parts, then we get addicted to the EV grin. We have now stepped up to the commercial level, and more videos to follow. Thanks

Yes, 5 speed. Most guys will keep it in 3rd for 0-40 mph or so and it acts like an automatic. You dont have to shift until you go over that speed. Super easy to do and free and quiet to drive! On my third conversion now... a Ford escort which is a lot lighter than the Accord and will be a 240v 3 phase AC system.

Yes, center is an important issue. We install our motors onto our trans out of the vehicle, and our mounting plates our adjustable. Also, the LoveJoy coupling that connects the motor shaft to the trans input shaft is designed perfectly to allow for small amounts of cushion for alignment. When connecting your trans to motor, always bench test for rotation check and alignment.

Speed and range is not an issue, if you have the budget. I built a 92 Isuzu Pickup for $6,000 and it goes +80 Mph for about 40-50 miles. I have a system that can go +100 Mph and has a range of 300 miles, but cost $35,000. I built this Honda for $2,000 car included, but it could only go 40 mph and had a range of 20 miles.

Our systems have converters that take the 144V or bigger battery packs, and step them down to 14v for the vehicles existing equipment. Some installations leave a 12v battery attached to the converter, to act like a capacitor.

We carry Warp motors for our small budget systems. They are DC setups that arent very efficient. However, our high end systems are 3 phase AC with 98% efficiency and Lithium Batteries. The electric vehicle kits come with their own LCD display which tells all information like range. Our high end motor has 750 lbs of torque @ 0 rpm, which is great for the drag strip.

I have systems that can go 300 miles at 60 mph, with top speeds of over 100 mph, however they cost $35,000. Our smaller budget systems that cost $7000 will go 85+mph with a range of 50 miles.

I like what you've done. There's another guy here on YT that estimates that it would cost the same amount of money to make a full gas-to-electric conversion as it would cost to buy an electric-only car new. Approximately $20,000 + USD. $20,000.00 is just enough to make it out of reach for anyone that is less than middle class. What happens to your car insurance premiums when you make such a conversion?

$8,000 would easily get you an electric vehicle built, however that 100 mile range would be impossible on Lead Acid batteries. Lithium bats would easily make the trip doable, but get ready to spend $8,000 in just batteries. I had a small $3,000 system that went 60 mph, it just took it awhile to get up to speed. I would try something on small scale, and work your way up. You'll get addicted to not going to the gas station. A generator could help you get that far on lead acid. Thanks!

No you don't seem to understand the electric motor doesn't idle like a gas engine it goes to stop and then it starts again you never need a clutch.You just leave it in gear probably 3rd gear all the time and you dont need to shift it.You can upshift without a clutch and you can also downshift although that is a little harder to do.

With electric motor, you dont need a transmission. In electric the torque is allready in all rpm ( diferent of gas engines )
@andrepatacchini
9 жыл бұрын
jhon carlos moreno castro hi john. I think that jose asked about the automatic gearbox, because of the small hp and low rpm of the motor. 1750rpm is just to slow, even for a n.e.v. and 2hp will act like a golf car. Maybe, in an automatic, he can reach some speed. But the best will be the use of a 7,5hp, 3500rpm, two poles, and a inverter with 10hp rating. Using 25 ups battery, with 18A 12V, you have 300volts, feeding the inverter's dc link. Depending on the vehicle mass, he will achive, maybe 60mph and some 15 to 20 milles of autonomy. With 40A batterys, 30 to 35 milles.

Josef Venport virtually free to get them, some junkyards have forklift motors. It's good for anyone who just needs a motor too they can save up and buy a more powerful one. For me personally though, if you're gonna go to a junkyard for an electric motor, than just pull one out of something like a Nissan Leaf or Chevy Volt. 2 Chevy Volt motors can make around 300+hp, and 500 lbs. of tourque.

It's always a good idea to find out your curb weight before looking into electric conversion. If it is a lighter vehicle, then it is in theory cheaper to get that vehicle going faster. Small budget street capable kits can range $3-4K for under 40 miles and 50 mph speed, to $9-75K with 80-300 miles and 85+ mph top speed. Some times you can find used parts from smaller EVs like golf carts and forklifts while you get familiar, then purchase EV components made for large vehicles. You get the EV grin which get's you addicted. Good luck!

Rajesh Shrestha Because the product you put in your car is gasoline (i.e. gas), not just raw petroleum. Your nickname (PETROL) is short for petroleum. Our nickname for it is more accurate. It's not our fault that you don't know the difference between the third state of matter and a product that happens to have it in its name. Over here in the US, we're capable of understanding which one we're talking about without using incorrect terminology like "petrol." But then, we're capable of using both standard and metric measurements while the rest of you need to stick to the simpler method, so it's no big surprise.
