Very nice build. Moving the axle over/under the springs can adjust the height. Or switch to a torsion bar axle, which gives even more options. Living on the Gulf Coast, I need a camper to run away from hurricanes when no accommodations are available. I will probably build it to bolt onto my utility trailer frame, after the utility box is unbolted and removed.

Neat set up. Think about flipping your axle to the bottom of the leaf springs to gain a few inches of clearance. Also will allow for larger tires. Especially if you want to be able to have the same wheel/tire package as the Jeep.
@MidAmericaPrep
5 жыл бұрын
My only issue with flipping the axle is that it would only give me body height. The axle would stay the same distance. And yes, bigger tires would raise the axle up, but I would be in the same scenario. If I had the money to do it, I would install torsion axles. But at their cost and the minimal off roading that will happen, I won’t break the bank. I’ll be posting more on the trailer soon. Thanks for watching!

Mid-America Prep. Doing the spring-over will give you the room needed to put taller tires on it and raising the axel tube at least 1.5" giving you more axel lift. Your Jeep looks like it's running stock factory size tires. If you were to measure the clearance on the rear axel from the bottom of the pumpkin to the ground, you'll see you have more clearance on the trailer. I would definitely add a 1.5 to 2" lift block to the trailer to help with the departure angle. It'll also allow you to change the stinger on the hitch to one that's even or +1" and prevent future damage to the landing gear. I'm speaking from experience, I have a 4.5x10' trailer on 3" blocks, running same size tires as my CJ7. (35x12.5x17). I liked and subbed to see what you end up doing. Thx.

You could make a bar side to side and triangles for each wheel independent suspension that raise and widen to fit. Bigger tires with wheel travel and dampening. You could also get some longer more flex Deaver leaf springs and shocks maybe a wider axle? It could raise it for tires and loose a pumpkin gaining ground clearance. Your truck with a body lift is not for much off roading pulling a trailer as well though.

Also, while 3 gallons isn’t a whole lot, when you’re on the trail and in the back country, any amount of warm pressurized water is great. We camped in the mountains last fall over 30 miles from anyone for 7 days. Temps maxed out around 50 and got to the teens overnight. The water would warm to around 70 to be used for washing dishes and hands in the evening. We didn’t even use the entire 3 gallons. Had we wanted to use it for a shower, we could have easily pressurized it all the way and used all 3 gallons to do so. Refilling it via the local stream.

Depends as to what is on it. Dry weight without any tools in the box is around 850-900. Adding tools, water, battery and gear clearly adds a lot fairly quickly. Before I added the tool box, water, solar and battery, the entire trailer had such a great CG, that I was able to lift the tongue with one finger. I wish that I had used 3/4 even with the added weight. But being that it’s an exoskeleton frame, I needed all the space I could inside.

Hey brother I was just currious as to what kind of resin you used on your trailer. This is the first video I have seen of yours. I already have my base trailer built and am ready to build the top. I guided a good friend of mine when he built his teardrop trailer. He had bought a gallon of polyester resin from the auto store. I talk him into using marine grade epoxy resin and he has had zero issues with cracking or delamination. Polyster resin does not bond permanantly to wood. It cost more but is worth the extra expense. I would be curious to know which one you chose to use. Fiberglass cloth will use alot less resin to wet out and finishes smoother with alot less effort. We rounde all his corners with a 1" roundover bit and used fiber glass tape for all edges.
@MidAmericaPrep

@tomjeffersonwasright2288

Polyester will bond if you sand with coarse, open grit belt sander. Move the sander so that you DO NOT grind the dust into the sanded wood. Cooking the glue and plys in a press to make plywood forms a layer of varnish-like hardened tree sap on the plywood surface. Get rid of that, and polyester resin will bond. I do it for a living and have had very, very few failures. I would put the resin on top of some fine cloth to make a stronger film that will crack less.
