Tbf maintenance and running costs are important. What's the point in buying a high performance car if it's going to be just sitting in the garage more than actually being driven on road? High maintenance on luxury cars and sports cars is understandable but for a daily driver car it doesn't make sense.

I'll vote for the long-lasting and reliable naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engines anyday! 😊 Reliability and longevity are compromised when one opts for cars with small turbo-charged petrol engines. Honda and Toyota petrol cars with naturally aspirated engines easily last for 15-20 years. They are reliable anyday compared to VV/Skoda petrol cars with turbo-charged engines (Polo, Vento, Kushaq, Rapid etc). In VV/Skoda cars after 6-7 years injectors blow out, engine develops other issues. Also, problems including 'damaged sensors' are very common in VV/Skoda cars. The warranty period will be over by then. You'll have to spend huge amounts for injectors, sensors etc. These issues will only get worse and you will be forced to sell the vehicle for good. I have many friends facing such issues. These cars are not build to last. Vast majority of the people who buy cars in India belong to the middle class. They won't be able to buy new cars every 5-6 years. Most of them will want to use their cars for minimum 14-15 years.

Turbocharger is a Forced Induction device which entraps more Air and sends it to combustion chamber for completing 4 stroke cycle. Since more content is of the air and lesser fuel is consumed, It's more frugal than a Naturally Aspirated Petrol Engine. Turbocharger is connected to the Exhaust Manifold and Exhaust section. It also requires Intercooler since the turbo heats on spooling up to produce more power.

Dear Faisal u had a question u answered it urself....maruti is not using small engine in big cars...brezza, scross, ciaz, Ertiga, xl6 all uses big capacity 1.5 ltr engines ..even lighter cars like wagon r is having 1.2 ltr option, swift which is known as a sporty car is capable enough to compete with NIOS turbo..secondly it is a mass market car maker focusing on MASS of common people not THE ELITEs.....u might not b focusing on fuel expenses but common man does....as a result hyundai also is now using fuel economy in the advt. N abt the airbags...if u compare the price bracket in which maruti sells no other company is providing side n curtain airbags in that bracket...n lastly naturally aspirated engines r far more reliable n easy to maintain with less driving disciplines than turbos..yes having choice of various engine options, sunroof, LEDs, touchscreen, smart key, cameras etc , is a wonderful thing but not everyone has it, due to money constraints....n now THE HYUNDAI, RENAULT/NISSAN r also taking maruti's way to produce tin cans n keep the cost in check...... plz don't think me of a fanboy of maruti but it was a maruti 800 which actually made indian's dream of owning a four wheeler, come true n it's after sales service n reliability although intangible but is far more important factor ..🙏

Japanese are better known for reliability, so NA must be the obvious choice The most reliable IC Engine design is inline series (Inline3, 4, 5, 6). Problem with V engine(V6, V8, V10) is the piston is not vertical to ground/gravity, so always their ll be uneven wear/ lubrication on cylinder walls. Engine should be transverse in standard passenger car, so we get maximum passenger cabin space. The most displacement transverse engine in passenger car would be inline 5 ( Volvo Inline5) but it has odd cylinder/piston numbers result in vibration (similar to Inline 3). Toyota Supra 2JZ is reliable coz its inline (obviously 2 seater) I do first felt, Honda should have given us choice of City turbo RS as that of South Asian market, but later I felt that, for Honda, India is more important market than south Asia in long run. I mean, in long run customers ll acquire knowledge regarding cars and IC engineering reliability. In South Asia Honda got bigger market share. In India its still challenging. Definitely, NA is reliable than turbo. Even PFI is reliable than GDI (4th gen city vs 5th gen) that does oil dilution and wear engine parts. In GDI, only remedy is to change engine oil in 5k than 10k. Gasoline dilution is terrible than diesel dilution coz gasoline got less lubricating property. Todays piston rings are less tight for improved fuel efficiency that adds more dilution. Similarly old Innova 2.5 was non turbo that gave Toyota reliability title, not is the case with todays turbo Crysta . Toyota jacked up Crysta price a lot so high budget buyers literally wont bother on reliability ). When I drive Honda city 4th gen Vtec on roads, I never felt in need of turbo, coz majority competitors on road today are underpowered, including many small capacity turbo SUVs. BTW turbo only can give u a mid range torque/surge, when comes to top end (express highway), displacement solely matters. Yes, drivability is an issue with low end torque, ie u just need to workout gears and become a better driver. Some few brands that better perform than city Vtec in acceleration is VW 1.5L turbo, Mahindra 2LTurbo, Hyundai 1.4 turbo. All are heavily turbocharged that lacks reliability. Toyota Crysta 2.8(not Fortuner) comes close , but at what price ?. I want power just to get rid of traffic congestion, not to overtake everyone and be the 1st. u want performance - u become an expert manual gear driver u want drivability & efficiency - go for CVT (Yes, Honda should hav offered torque converter) u won't lose Reliability on either of the above, if its Gasoline NA with good power to weight ratio. Diesel is dead without turbo, even than they cant be redlined like a Gasoline. They are for trucks/suv's not sedans U want everything (performance, fuel efficiency, reliability) from an auto DSG transmission, and be VFM - its impossible Either u improve ur driving skills(manual), or u pay more to buy & maintain. Majority Indian costumers buy as their first car. It takes time to learn IC engineering.... lol When Japanese brands came to US first for business, they were literally zero. Now they challenges even the American Legend Ford at their hot pick-up segment VW's is only reliable in Europe. Outside they are know as Germans Luxury cars !! Their USP is handling & Safety, for those, need to add more chassis weight that reduce engine life & fuel efficiency. BTW safety lies in the hands of driver (More he know the road condition and machine capability. more is safe). Our rode got vehicles from bikes to Heavy trucks Nowadays they came with Cylinder deactivation that reduce reliability due to temperature variation among bore. Thanks Faisal on such an elaborate discussion.

On a practical note.. turbos are way less fuel efficient and on high maintenance than NA. In a mass market like india these are the main factors a common man looks at. Honda 1.0L turbo 122bhp 175nm vs 1.5L NA 119bhp 145nm With this kind of difference I would pick NA.

One of the best videos of faisal. I own a honda city 2010, it’s an awesome car but the low end is soo soo poor that by the time my car reaches 4.8k rpm and V-tec kicks in, I have to change the gear lol. In real world you cannot drive your car till 7k rpm all the time. And because of that bad low end it bores me to drive it sometimes. Honda honestly needs to give a turbo V-tec in India. it’s gonna destroy the market. We don’t need the City Rs because we don’t even have those roads, sometimes when I get over a bump I get scared that I shouldn’t break my City lmao.

An extremely constructive and honest rant video! As you said, maruti being the market leader should start treating the market with more respect and take the market lot more seriously. Their attitude may have worked pre 2012/2010 but not today, the only reason they are selling today are because of the brand value they built and nothing else. Even though certain hyundai/Kia models seem to have certain quality issues but in reality they are the only mass market brand in India today which give maximum bang for your buck being pretty much an all rounder.
