thats pretty and looks very functional. Impressive you could put it all together. Maybe it would be interresting to make something from the bronze or iron age. Tools, weapons or jewelry

Thanks, Am thinking of doing one project just like that soon. Kinda a small replica of a garden tool I found that is very old. But sounds like something interesting to try out in the future. There are so many useful things one can make from for the most part just scrap.

You should have split the face of the axe and inserted that damascus as the bit instead. Always use your best steel as the bit. Also one thing I never see people do is something that culturally Europeans have done since the invention of metals - their axes are hammered out as thin figure-eights and then folded around a mandrel and forge welded shut around the bit. Given that most cheap utilitarian axes always fail at the eyelet where they're literally just wrapped it around on itself to insert the haft for thousands of years our forefathers have avoided this by that method and yet only one in maybe a thousand blacksmiths even KNOW that method exists.

I was wondering about that too. The etch was not very deep with the vinegar for the time I had it in there. It would get dark but not strong enough to eat away at the metal so you could feel it under your finger tips. But then if I had left it in over night in just cold vinegar, it probably would have done the trick. I think one would have to get the gunk off every few hours though. Also the only bit of nickel steel in the damascus was in either the spokes or chain lock.

At some point definitely. First on the list though some gardening tools, beekeeping tools a blacksmith post vice from scratch needs to happen very soon and we need a big axe right now for chopping all those logs to make charcoal. So that axe will be the next video coming up for blacksmithing.

Also did see Chandlers video. I must source a place to get belts. When you are as new as me here in India it is still hard to find the right shop. Nobody wants to disappoint so they send you quite often on a wild goose chase. Bit like how it is in Ireland :)

yeh, no rush, you can get belts shipped and if you buy in bulk it can be cost effective, a big axe sounds great, when you start making more blades (especially Damascus) you will want a belt sand for better bevels and higher finishes.
