I’ve seen other videos about these cold show mounted top handles failing, cameras and lenses smashing into the ground. Cold shoes can have problems already, overtime, so there’s no reason to stress them or lie dangling all this weight from them. The other problem is the close placement to the camera. The top of the viewfinder brushes against your knuckles half the time. Seems more reasonable to just get a cage and mount the handle on that.

I've used them as an option for light setups for years and have never experienced a cold shoe failure. For people who have a light setup and find these handles helpful, they're a nice option. For sure, heavier setups need a cage for a handle. Thanks for watching 👊

@@GreggMcLachlan One additional thought about this setup is the weight that is put on the camera hotshoe. I hope it is build to last and to take that much weight - I got Fuji XH1 and was contemplating getting the full smallrig cage for it and handle on top of the cage, but this setup without the cage would save weight.

The pressure to the body hotshoe isn’t the weight of the top handle, but the body+lens. I guess it’s good news hearing people that have damaged hotshoe from using the handle is somewhat rare.

Great video! Straight to the point and informative. I’ve been thinking of getting an entire cage to mount more things (mic, light etc...) but it costs a lot and takes up too much room. This handle and the other accessory is perfect! Thanks for the review/video.

I've ordered the similar NATO rail version, think it's called the 2439. Haven't received it yet but I really like the combination of the three cold shoe mounts (one of them locking, as you say), the 15mm rail attachment hole, and the angled shape of the handle. These seem like the most useful small handles I've seen.

(in this case it would be 3/8 female to 1/4 male to attach to the bottom ZC Mini dual handle)
