This is such a powerful scene. So sad each time I watch it.But the one thing I love about it is that even though Clark and Lex had conflict with one another, Lex still had enough respect for Jonathan to show up at his funeral and pay his respects.
@ImranChaudhry
6 жыл бұрын
Clark would later "repay" the respect by attending the funeral ceremony of Lionel Luthor. It looked to be a private ceremony, family only, as only Lex was present... Lex however says nothing as Clark stands there with him because deep down Clark is the closest thing he has to a brother.

And in the new Supergirl trailer, Cat grant said Women are more powerful because they allow themselves to be vulnerable to emotions. Clearly the writers of Supergirl have never watched Smallville. Smallville explored lots of Superman's vulnerabilities and emotions. And has more depth than Supergirl's show ever did.

All those shows miss the mark with putting heart into it. Rewatching some scenes reminded why this is my favorite Clark, Jonathan, Lex and many more. Saw a little bit of Green Arrow years ago and Smallvilles version is so much better for me bc he has heart and a personality. The characters in these newer superhero shows are so bland-no personality.

This scene and song were both vivid in my mind during my grandfather’s funeral. I used it to rationalize and relate to my pain. I was closer to him than most and I ended up being the last one to leave his grave. He was a better man than any father I had and I felt like I lost my compass. I still feel that way 4 years later.

Always such an incredible scene. Both so beautiful and sad at the same time. The cinematography and score just add so much to it. And how everyone especially Clark is feeling. There is so much heart in the scene, which is shown with the acting: how Lana takes Clark's hand for comfort, looking at him, wanting to be there for him. Chloe and Lois looking back at him, feeling for him. Lex standing off in the distance watching Clark, also I believe feeling for him as well. Also really loved that Lex came, which shows deep down that though they may now be frenemies of sorts, Lex still cares for Clark and wants to be there to comfort him and show respect to Jonathon. Lionel walking up behind Martha, is also about wanting to comfort her in her time of loss. And finally, Clark sprinkling the clump of dirt on the coffin. His way of both saying goodbye and accepting his father's death. Overall, one of the best heartfelt scenes of the entire series.😀🙏

even though they were now enemies (or frienamies) I think it's touching that although Lex wasn't up front and center at the funeral (for obvious reasons) he still showed up. I think he was showing respect for the friendship they had (past tense) as well as for the Kent family overall.

It was the visual of stories represented in the song. Lionel/Martha Chloe/Lana/Lois...dont come close to matching Clark/Lex. You could see Lex was grieving. Not just for his once close friend but for the father he saw in John. The family he wished he could've been part of. The glue of that family was gone and buried. Taking that last tiny glimmer of hope with him.

Welling had a really tough role, the more I think about it. As I watch these clips I can see that when He played an evil version of Clark he would put a little more emotion into the role and he was very compelling in those roles, but as Clark he had to always be a little bit more reserved, and I think that's why people sometimes say he was flat as ana actor. I don't think it was his acting, it was the direction of the character.
@shabrinaz9877
4 жыл бұрын
He is not flat. He is humble and content. Just like Bruce Willis in Unbreakable. They walk with zero pride whatsoever with their power, they have reservation from the pain they have witnessed and it only left them with humility. This character is also similar to Peter Krause in 911 show. The lead of an emergency savior should be charming and content. They rarely use so much emotion behind their delivery. Unlike Cavill walking with so much arrogance, anger, anxiousness and rapey eyes in his Supersuit
@azahora22

I don't think he was flat at all. He shows plenty of emotion. Here he's trying to hold it back or just feels numb but int he next episode when he comes home and sees his mom watching the home video he breaks down crying. I agree with the other reply he's humble so he's not really boisterous or anything. And he was really good at giving expressions or uskg his eyes to say more than words could.

And now my godmother just passed away at the beginning of this year on January she was the most important to me because I was her only godson that she ever loved, now it's making me to think or I'm telling myself that I wish I can just kill myself or commit suicide because I can't stand it anymore of all of the death and passing away and I don't know why it had to be me and my family it's almost like now I'm losing everybody I know in my family and everyone in my life one by one and the world is now turning into a nightmare meaning like were all in Hell and I don't know why it had to be this way, I also kinda wish that my mom would had some home videos of me and my grandfather and godmother only that way she can show the rest of my family of what I did with my grandfather and godmother when I was a little bit younger.

I HATE Clark , for he does nothing to treat his father's heart while Jon loves him so much. He can treat Jon's heart easily like Lionel's liver; however, he only keeps talking but not acting to save his dad. More importantly, when something terrible happens, the stupid son always thinks of Lana first. For example, when the space ship wants to harm the people he loves, Lana's safety is his priority( her image appears first) even though they are still not lovers.
