Introducing the Slide n Hide DIY TV Cover. It tackles 2 main TV issues. Firstly, nowadays TV are easily damaged due to accidental knocks especially by kids activities. Secondly, the black colored TV don't match with most Room decor well. Slide n Hide TV cover provides an aesthetic decor that a normal TV doesnt while at the same time protecting it from accidental damage. It is an easy to use, works both Manual and/or Smart automation, easy to maintain with easy interchangeable designs.
The story behind it is that I had to change my TV twice in the Kids room in the past 3 years due to the activities in the Kids room causing the damage, the latest being the 'Light Saber Battle'. Thus, An idea is borne out of necessity.
Other options to protect the TV would be to use a screen protector or an acrylic cage. In both cases, they are not only expensive, but also affect the viewing quality as it adds an additional layer to the TV. For screen protector, it offers minimal protection as it is in contact with the TV itself. An acrylic cage offers better protection as it is hooked to the TV frame, but it makes the TV bulky and 'uglier' with its external casing. Slide n Hide TV Cover offers a better solution as not only does it provides an aesthetic screen but it also protects the TV better as there is a gap between TV and the board. The only downside is the TV is still exposed when TV is on but the possibility of TV getting damage when TV is on is very low as the kids will be glued to the TV screen anyway.
Using main items such as Extendable Poles, Smart Blind Motor together with a Pencil, it uses a Hidden mechanism, a DIY Motorised Rack and Pinion system with the pencil as the gear to operate. Total cost is appx less than $80 for the all the items. Multiple times cheaper than if you were to customise a Sliding TV cabinet with a permanent design and without any smart features. The total cost for my project is minimal as the main items such as the extendable poles and the smart blind motor are leftovers from the previous Sliding Shoe rack and Adiydas blind project.
For the Smart Features, it uses Alexa Routine Integration and Broadlink app for the smart blind motor. It can be controlled via Voice, buttons, schedule and motion sensors to close the TV and protect it when no one is watching.
