For anyone thats curious about why the cop just drives off, Back then, if you made it home or onto private property, the traffic cops could not come onto the property. 🤣🤣 As a 15 yr old on my XR250, it was a loop hole i used A LOT😆

Something about a speed machine like this on a public road is so captivating. Also, I love the first shot of the policeman looking down the road, with that engine note getting louder. The policeman's like "Ok, something's coming this way making a LOT of noise." :P

Okay guys, the car is a Ralt RT1 Formula Pacific (formula Atlantic in North America), they were powered by 1600 Ford Cosworth twin cams. This was circa 1976/77, Toyota 4AGE engines were not even introduced until 1983. Not to mention the footage in the movie of Steve Millens crash at Pukekohe.....

Cubic Centimetres. Believe me, with a 5 litres engine, the cop would not have try to stop it... Basically, when that car had a top speed of 115 mph, a Formula 5000 had a top speed of 170 mph. I also thing it's a New Zealand or Australian thing, due to the road and the in both of these countries the Formula Atlantic/Pacific were racing against the bigger Formula 5000 for all the 60's, 70's and part of the 80's and were doing ok because they are a bit better in the corner ;)

I saw this movie in the theatre when it first came out, and bought its subsequent releases throughout the years on VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray. But I have just noticed something for the first when watching this clip... @ 2:16 when reverse is selected in the police car its front indicator lights come on, and then go off again when drive is selected. I'm assuming the rear indicators would come on as reversing lights but I've never heard of front indicators also coming on. Would this be a Holden 'feature' that I've never heard of or just a wiring fault? :)

I remember this being filmed when I was a kid we lived not far from this area horopito north of raetihi ,when the car spun around and headed back the other way it damaged the clutch and you can here it slipping I remember it being talked about by the crew etc

It is a formula Pacific actually, which is totally based on the Formula Atlantic car, they were raced in New Zealand from 1977-1982, this movie is from 1981, this car is a 1980 model and is powered by a Ford Cosworth BDA 1600cc engine.

Yes, when the Holden does the U turn you can see the HQ rear tail lights. Maybe that is something weird the kiwis did? Or perhaps it had an accident at some point and the front clip was replaced with that from a later model.
