What I like about these two legends, they don't take themselves seriously. You don't see bands who have a sense of fun really. When someone tells me they find them annnoying or shit I have to admit I don't bother trying to convince them otherwise, I just secretly think to myself they don't have a soul. And if they do then it certainly isn't large enough to build a bird house in.

So did they learn the chords and all for "Teen Spirit" ahead of time to prepare for just such an occasion? If it's really improv it makes you wonder how they were able to correctly dash off the song, on accordion no less... The lyrics are priceless though. This version or Weird Al, hmm, tough choice... ;)
@L0REN0R2Z0RR0

Lisa H. I've taught myself to play the accordion and I can almost automatically play the chords to most of the TMBG songs. It's not too hard (same might go for guitar), especially for musical geniusses like the Johns, who played thousands of songs already.
@daveidmarx8296
6 жыл бұрын
For years, they had a "Stump the band" segment in their shows where audience members would shout out song requests and they'd busk their way through them. Later, this morphed into "Spin the dial" , where they would flip through an actual radio on stage and play along with whatever it landed on. So yeah, ability to improv on the fly is something they're pretty good at.
@Gravitynaut

this comment is old but a few things: A: John is actually playing a different progression than the one Cobain used on Teen Spirit. The one he's playing is a more typical "4 chord pop" progression. However all of Cobain's chords register as substitutions for the more typical diatonic ones, which is why it more or less registers as the same song.
