One good thing to remember is where each screw goes so it can go back into the original hole. Each screw on a S&W revolver is married to it's particular hole during fitting. I like to make a loose diagram of the gun on paper and tape each screw to the paper where it's hole is.

MJ - because of your brilliant disassembly and reassembly videos of the GP100 i was able to confidently and successfully learn everything about the workings of my GP - thank you....NOW, i just purchased a S&W 686 so im back and already benefiting from your S&W videos too - you make gun owners BETTER gun owners by sharing your knowledge with all of us - the entire gun community owes you a debt of gratitude, so, once again, THANK YOU, by far the best videos out there

Thanks very much for your excellent video!! Your meticulous instruction and occasional tips eliminated my fear of disassembling and reassembling my Smith & Wesson 626 .357 Magnum and Smith & Wesson 629 .44 Magnum Revolvers. They do need a thorough cleaning every 500-1,000 rounds. Thanks again!!

Fascinating. I will make my son watch as well. A firearm owner is responsible for knowing their firearm, and while they may never get this far into it physically, need to understand it.

They should get into it this far, especially with a carry gun. Carry guns and heavily used guns get a lot of gunk inside that can not only affect the performance and reliability of the firearm, but can cause internal damage in severe cases. A good internal cleaning and light oiling every year is highly recommended for carry guns, and even brand new guns after the trigger is broken in to remove metal dust and shavings left over from production.

The new model 69 in 44mag has the same insides. That little stirrup on the trigger that the mainspring hooks up to is a bugger, but this video showed it clearly. Great video Mike
