Howdy Smitty! How is this a slot antenna? It loos like a traditional loop. After that article came out, I built several slot antennas for 2m, 40cm and 6m. I used aluminum tape for the little ones and the six meter was a rain gutter downspout with a nine foot slot in it! They all worked well indoors and saved lots of space versus a vertical.

I think the point is that "traditional loops" _ARE_ slot antennas, they just don't go by that name. But the underlying physics are such that the radiation is primarily by currents in the loop, rather than voltage swings at the tips. I'm mostly talking out of my stinky-hole here, John's article describes this better than I can. Specifically, it covers the path from VHF slots, to 6m slots (yes, still VHF, you know what I mean), to HF slots.
